Becky & Wayne

Wedding Speech 30 May 2014

Before I start   a little bit of history >>>>>>

478 years ago Henry the 8th married Jane Seymour.

50 years ago today the Beatles had a No 1 hit with

LOVE ME DO.

And today ………..We have another Royal Wedding of sorts

A handsome Prince has married our beautiful Princess

AND TALK ABOUT LOCATION, LOCATION,  LOCATION.

Mexico.… Riviera Playa…..This Fairytale Setting

This beautiful beach …….the gorgeous sunset ?

And of course…YOU…..the most charming of guests.

All in all a truly magical day so far

And I would like to thank the staff here at Ocean Coral for all their hard work in making this a special day for our happy couple.

I hope by now you`ll know who I am, I happen to be the father of the most Beautiful Bride who happens to be sitting next to me,  and you must agree with me our Becky looks absolutely stunning today.

And on behalf of my equally lovely wife Sue, and Wayne`s parents Martin & Mandy, we extend a very warm welcome to you all for joining us here, for Becky and Wayne`s Wedding Celebrations.

Weddings are special occasions, not only does it bring friends and families together that you have not seen for a while, it also brings together new friends and families for the first time.

So I would like to take this opportunity now to welcome those of you who have travelled long distances to be here today to share in Becky & Wayne`s special day.

So I would like all of us to give ourselves a toast, and thank us all  for making the journey here, and for being part of this special, special day.

Wedding Days are meant to be unforgettable.

And this one is no exception, being here in Mexico sharing this amazing experience with all of you, being with this wonderful couple and watching them making their vows and commitment to each other this afternoon, it will be something that will live in my memory for a very long time.

Today is tinged with a little bit of sadness for me, I have performed this lovely duty twice before, and Becky is my 3rd Daughter whom I have had the privilege to give away, but the sadness is short lived as the feeling of immense  pride takes over  as being the proud father of a beautiful  bride, and the great pleasure of seeing these two young newlyweds sharing their happiness with all of us.

A Wedding is a time for joy and fun with friends and family gathered together to see the happy couple start their new lives,  but it is a time too when our thoughts turn to some of those, who have meant so much to our families, but who could not make it here today……

THAT'S PROBRABLY BECAUSE THEY WER`NT INVITED.

No I mean the ones  who are not with us anymore..… well they are looking down on us in the best seats in the house,  We remember them with great  love…

To absent friends and family.

It brought tears to my eyes today when for the first time I actually heard Becky say  I WILL with a smile on her face and without arguing or moaning…..that was a first.

31st  October I remember it well, Sue was in the kitchen preparing a highly nutritious meal for the family .. bacon, egg and chips.. she said oh no !!   I thought, great she`s broken my egg!!!  But  it was her waters that had broken …  straight down to the hospital.… and two hours later Becky arrived.

Now Becky  was`nt the prettiest of babies …in fact I was quite shocked when she was handed to me….until the midwife turned her the right way up.  I`m only joking.

When she placed you in my hands you slipped into my heart.

My darling Becky.… Our beautiful daughter….3rd Daddys girl…my little splodge.

You all know her nickname now.

It is said that the only time a woman really succeeds in changing a man is when she is a baby.

My heart grew bigger when you were born, as it did when your sisters were born too.

Thankyou for the honour of walking with you today, it made me feel like a king escorting his Princess into the next part of her life.

FORNICATION

Sorry  cant read my writing

For an occasion such as this and breaking with tradition, I`m not going to tell embarrassing  stories about Becky, i`m not going to divulge any hidden family secrets of her early years, not even the malicious rumours aboutpot smoking or the 2 asbo`s

You only had one asbo

Instead I shall save that for the dance floor.. when we have  our Daughter and Daddy dance together …when Ishow you my new Dads Dance Moves…..

Bet your really looking forward to that….

Becky was a cute baby, but boy could she pee for England, she would come into our bedroom in the morning with a huge inflated nappy hanging around her knees, how could it hold so much liquid? I don't know.

If they`d had some of them nappies on the Titanic , it would never have sunk….

I can still picture her now taking all her clothes off  and running around the garden…peeing on Sues foot on holiday…  and playing out in the street with no knickers on .. just typical stuff that teenagers do.

What I have really missed about Becky, was she used to be my little D I Y helper, her D I Y skills are legendary,

She`s my little black & decker girl.

I recently helped with some Tiling in their bathroom and Becky with gusto said don't worry about the Grouting, i`ll do it.

Well it only took 2 days for me and Wayne to do the tiling but over 2 weeks to get the grout off the tiles that Becky had left on…….

Recently Wayne came home from work to find Becky dressed in an Anorak and an Overcoat painting the bathroom…he sked her why she was dressed like that and Becky said…I read the can and it said for best results put 2 coats on.

And then came the Day that still brings a lump to my throat, when I recollect how Becky took me to one side and said, she had something important to tell me ….she said  Dad…….Wayne`s going to work for British Gas.

YES…………   No call out charges

Anyway after a couple of radiators, a full system flush, and a promise of a new boiler .… I was more than happy to give my blessing.

Weddings are all about Families and I`m pleased to say we are good friends with Wayne`s parents Martin & Mandy and other members of their family, all nice people and you can see Wayne was obviously brought up the right way, and he`s a credit to you both,   and i`m  pleased to say that Martin and I share a little passion for Malt Whiskey and we have been known to sink a few little drops now and again.

A couple of months ago Susan and I celebrated  39 years of Marriage  which funnily enough  reminded me of a story about a couple who was married for 39 years. The wife noticed that her husband kept looking at their wedding certificate everyday.  Being a woman, the curiosity got the better of her, and she had to ask her husband ….why do you keep reading our marriage certificate ? the husband replied …I`m looking to see if there`s an expiry date, but I can`t find it……

How we got to 39 years, I really don't know…

There are no secrets…..no magic potions…..or tricks when it comes to a successful marriage.

A long loving marriage is not about finding someone you can live with……..but finding a person you can`t live without.

Becky it has been an honour to walk with you today, and I will cherish the memory forever.

Wayne I don't need to ask you to look after my little girl because I know you will.

Becky you have been an absolute joy to your mother and I and I hope you are aware just exactly how much we love you and how very proud we are of the lovely young woman you have become.

We`ve had the privilege to watch a very talkative, extremely inquisitive and often shy little girl develop into the very beautiful , clever , compassionate, never opiniated, and loving young lady that we see here today.

Thankfully Becky has inherited most of her better traits from Susan, just the odd bad one from me,you have your Mums gorgeous looks, your Mum`skind nature.… and from me …..well lots of people suffer fromwind Becky.…

It certainly did`nt take long for us to notice that Becky was really smitten by this young man….and when he started to let me beat him at  golf.. and then he started to compliment Sue on her cooking .… Well he had to be serious…….are you really serious about Sue`s cooking ….

You wonder as a parent just how well your children will turn out, you wonder what sort of life decisions they will make, especially those that you have no control over, who will they pick as a partnerto share their life with ? Will that person love and care for them as well as you would ,  will you approve ?

Well for what it`s worth Becky , Your Mum and Ithink you have made a cracking choice.

Now to my new son in law Wayne.

What can I say about him ?  I`m sure Sean will spill the beans on his brother shortly. But joking aside

Like most fathers, I was mildly protective of my girls and was prepared to fend off any potential suitors.

I took the view that no man was good enough for my girls and was in favour of Capital punishment or Castrationfor anyone who tried to take them away from me.

So it was in this welcoming atmosphere of open mindedness that we were first introducedto Wayne .

The reality was, from the first time we met him he has been an absolute credit to you Martin &  Mandy.

He`s polite…..very well mannered, and Damn it an extremely likeable  young man.

And as tradition dictates,it`s at this point that I am supposed to welcome you officially to our family, but the truth is, from day one you have been like another son to us ……..when he stays over  he leaves his clothes all over the place…….stays in bed all day ….and he must be clairvoyant…cos all my spirits seem to disappear.

Wayne….when you communicate with each other make sure you make it clear what you mean.

Sometime ago I told Susan that I liked  Black Under wear, and ever since then she has stopped washing my boxer shorts.

Looking to the future ..both families will look forward to the patter of tiny feet in your home..This does not mean you buy more cats ….

Some worldly advice for my New Son in Law:

This is to help him survive… sorry enjoyhis new marital status.   I HAVE 3 BITS OF ADVICE.

    1. Really enjoy your honeymoon Period ..if your not sure what this is let me explain. This is the time in your marriage between the I DO and YOU`D BETTER.

    1.  In my vast knowledge of the complexities  of the female mind, I believe the words YES LOVE, OF COURSE YOU CAN BUY IT may prove beneficial in keeping her happy.

    1. Now if the first 2 don't work, this is the Clincher, you say NO BECKY YOUR ARSE DOSENT LOOK BIG IN THOSE JEANS.

My time is nearly up but I would like to read you both a poem entitled

Marriage is for life, not just the wedding day.

Ladies and Gentlemen and Boys, please be upstanding and can you raise your glasses.

Here`s to Becky …may she share everything with Wayne, and that includes the housework.

Here`s to Wayne…A man who kept his head, even when he lost his heart.

Here`s to the new Husband and Wife….

May they remain lovers for all of life.

To the Bride and Groom
