As Father of the Bride, it is my privilege to make the first speech, and, I would like to start, by saying what a real pleasure it is to welcome, on this very happy occasion, , Roberts parents, Janice and Simon together with relatives and friends of both families.

Over the last few years we have got to know Rab very well, and we have come to realise how special he is to Fiona. Everyone that knows Fiona like we do will know that it takes a special person to win her over…….…

Of course I put this down to the army, as Rab is well trained at taking orders! No honestly folks anyone can see that they are made for each other.

Every married couple here today will know that a successful marriage needs good team work, and I am sure Fiona and Rab will make a good team, Look at Rab Rab you will wear the trousers but be assured Occasionally Fiona will tell you which ones to wear.

You all know the old saying that ‘marriage is a bed of roses’ but sometimes it is like being in a battlefield. Well Rab I am sure you already know this, but I feel it is my duty to tell you anyway, This will be the first battle you won't win……..… So my advice to you is
– Whenever you're wrong, admit it. Whenever you're right, shut up, because believe me – Fiona will never admit to being wrong.

I could rabbit on about Fiona, her good points, bad points. And ups and downs. Everyone here that knows her. Knows what she is like, and can see how happy she is today, and for the folks that are about to meet her for the first time……Well you have my sympathy.

I must be honest and say that Fiona is the kind of girl that every parent wishes for in a daughter, and as she leaves to start a new life with her husband, her mother and I will miss her very much &amp we wish, Both of them all the happiness in the world.

Well to finish….… which I am sure you will all be glad about..… I just want to end by saying, for once in our life Fiona and I agree on something…..…

And that is her choice of husband.

I am please to welcome Rab into our Clan …… and wish both of them a long prosperous and very happy life together.

So if you would all stand …………………… and raise your glasses and join me in wishing the New Mr &amp Mrs McClurg all the best for the future.
