Thankyou Robert for your kind words.
Having scoured the Internet looking for inspiration, the palpitations and cold sweats started to kick in as I realised that I had left it far too late to be starting, what has turned out to be considerably more of an effort than I had first given it credit for!
During this search, I read many little puns about the length and content of wedding speeches, one of which I felt compelled to include as it made me chuckle
"A wedding speech should be like a mini-skirt. Short enough to grab your attention yet long enough to cover the Meaning of Uniting Families and Friends, or MUFF for short."
Smile at Stephanie
Stephanie advised me of what the content this speech should cover, so here goes.
On behalf of my wife and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for coming and helping to make today as special as it has been and we hope you all enjoy yourselves.
I'm sure you will all agree with me that Stephanie looks stunning today and I stand before you now, a very proud man indeed.
When we started to arrange today, Stephanie was adamant that it was to be a summer wedding so that it wasn't too long a wait to go on our Honeymoon. For those of you who don't know, Stephanie teaches Art at a Leeds High School. I agreed that this would be an excellent idea ……As it would not interfere with the football season. Kerching!
I would now like to make our Thankyou's, starting with both of our families.
Linda and Robert.
Thankyou for raising your daughter to have the dignity, courage and endeavour she puts into her everyday life. Stephanie has told me many stories of herself as she grew up, and at the backbone of each was the support and encouragement she received from the two of you. I'm sure she has made you proud, and I'm positive she will continue to do so.
I'm sure there would be many parents out there who would also extend their gratitude to you for the influence Stephanie has had on the development of their children.
Would you please accept these as a gesture of both Stephanie and my own appreciation.
Mum and Dad
I would like to thank my parents for their continuous support that both my brothers and myself have always been able to count on. Under any circumstances we were always able to rely on them to pull us through a situation, and there have been the odd situations. I hope that throughout my life I have been able to make you proud, and with the help of my new wife I hope I can continue to do so.
Once again, would you please accept these as a gesture of both Stephanie and my own appreciation.
Bridesmaids
I would now like to thank Stephanie's bridesmaids, her sister Josephine who's hard work made Stephanie's Hen do so special. I know Stephanie would not swap you for the world, and Deborah, whom over the many years they have known each other now, has become and remained a great friend. You both look fabulous today and on behalf of Stephanie and Myself, I would like to thankyou for your help and support, not just today but for the many years worth. Also to Freya, who looked like a fairytale princess as she came down the aisle, I'm sure you will all agree a strong contender for ‘Star of the Show’, but today belonged to Stephanie.
Stephanie and I would like you to take these as a token of our appreciation.
Best Man
This was a very hard decision for me. I have 2 of the most wonderful brothers anyone could ever wish for, combined with 2 of the best friends a person has ever had, making for a very difficult decision. I know all of them would have helped to make today special and I can't say what made me make the choice I did, as I could have chosen any of the 4. I was however delighted and honoured to have had my brother Ross standing next to me in front of you today.
Again, please accept this small token of our appreciation.
Ushers
The final thankyou goes to our brothers, Christopher and Neal for helping to arrange things this morning, allowing both Stephanie and myself to concentrate, absorb and enjoy the atmosphere of today.
We also have a small gift for each of you.
Finally
I'm sorry this has dragged on a bit, but there was a big MUFF to cover but I would like to conclude with some brief details of our Honeymoon.
For those of you who don't know, Stephanie and I decided that I would have free range to book the honeymoon and Stephanie would be told at the wedding. All her friends, and I have teased her about the location, and I have tested her desire and trust to keep this a secret by leaving the details under her nose. To her credit she never looked and has looked forward to the revealing, with interest.
On the 2nd August we fly out to Tokyo for a whistle stop 3 days, en route to a fortnight in New Zealand, before finally having 4 nights in Hong Kong, just to break up the flights!
I hope sweetheart that you and I both enjoy our trip, as much as I have enjoyed booking it.
