Before I start, I'd like to set the tone by explaining why I'm so nervous. the day before my stag do max and josh said something, and I'm sure they did this on purpose:
They told me to watch the YouTube video of Tom from mcfly, He sang his wedding speech, And made everybody cry
Don't worry, I'm not doing the same my singing is a little worse But instead I thought -as you have probably guessed – I'll going to deliver this, in verse.
But please keep focus on my words The rhyme just helps me through It's the content of this speech that matters And all of it is true.
My first thanks are to (father of b.) Your kind words are hard to top. My simple offer in return – Is for Permission to call you pop
I was at recently (friends) wedding And to echo xxxx from that day I also give my promise Not to take your daughter away
But In my case it's not kindness To share (bride) with our dad its just that the thought of coping alone Is enough to drive me mad!
In fact sometimes id invite you to have her all week But know it's not worth the fight Asking you to compete With someone's (mother of bride) ‘salsa nights’
Now I feel is the perfect time To say something to di (mother of bride) And (step mother) please hear this too The same does apply
Saying mum is a little hard So I refer to you by name Please understand if this does not change I love you all the same.
One may not be here today But we are lucky to have four Loving parents to share our day And we couldn't ask for more
So if We don't say it quite enough For everything you've done Thank you for Looking after us, Since 1981.
On to Our beautiful Bridesmaids Who have come from near and far Birmingham and Vancouver By Aeroplane and car
Xxxxx – what an effort 4553 miles How can we persuade you to stay In the British isles?
Xxxx has not come quite so far But she's certainly proved her worth As It's probably an even bigger task Adjusting to ‘life up north’
Were so glad you could make it To be here by our side Although you've cut it a little fine You've ALMOST upstaged my bride
As for Mr xxxxx & I'm just happy I can say That I have my best friend As my best man, today
We Know you Live in London And It's hard to come on up But It's been so long this time around Even arsenal have won a cup.
Yes that's right – he's an gunners fan- And they've had a successful year And I don't need to reminding That Man U were nowhere near
But to show that I'm not bitter And your success doesn't hurt I thought it would be a good idea To buy you an arsenal shirt
But then I realised – It's your speech next & I know you'll show me no mercy So Instead I'll use this opportunity To remind you, wellbeck is no van Persie!
Ive yet to talk about my wife So will make this very swift As It's not only xxxxx Who gets thank you gift.
I'd like you all to join me As I propose a toast Apply it to whoever you please It's: ‘To those we love the most’
It's taken a while to reach this point – So before you all close ranks – On behalf of myself and my Bride; a few specific thanks
Firstly to xxxx and xxxx As distance was a factor It's a long way from Norwich Especially in a tractor
And To all our married friends Sat within these walls The (surnames) and the (surnames) The Xxxxson's and ‘The Halls’
It's the xxxxx wedding next It will be here before we know I've just got time to offer advice To xxxxxx, before you go
Make sure (lady) remains in charge And if in doubt remember That you struggled to even book a room For the “Christmas wedding… in September”
And to all our Other friends And family members too This verse quickly thanks you all To prevent the enevitable lavatory queue
But I would like to mention The (venue) Staff For making today possible By renting us your gaff.
So Once again please join me, for a second toast Please raise your glasses one more time To ‘friends who help the most’
On to the most important part The part about my bride Where There so many things that I could say I struggled to decide
I might be expected to mention How wonderful you look here But we both know that's what I think I've already whispered it in your ear.
In fact It seems odd filing this space With nice things that I could say As I hope to be doing just that Every single day.
And whilst I could talk about the times we've shared & Have my Speech completed in one go Id prefer to keep alive the fact These are the things that only I know
So excuse how I play this hand The way that I think best But Im going to be keeping my cards close to my chest
But Obviously I realise I should share something more So here's a little story Only few have heard before
It's a not exactly original Talking about the day that I proposed But Things never quite went to plan & This is how it goes…
To celebrate the eventual sale Of the house we left to upsize I planned a special riverboat meal; And an extra special surprise.
I spoken to our solicitor xxxx Who was pushing the sale through And moved onto seeking permission AKA ‘phase 2’
To avoid stirring suspicion I had a Cover story in place So I set of down to Birmingham To do it face to face
Evidently that ended well Xxxxx saw that I was smitten It probably helped I set of like a tiger But arrived more like a kitten!
Phase 3 the ring was underway With Jeweller appointments booked I'd even bought a token 2nd ring No detail overlooked.
Leaving work that thu night With plans all neatly made I received my own surprising news – Our house sale had been delayed.
And as (solicitor) also knew my plans, delay was her worst fear & I'll always remember how sweet it was To have a solicitor call me in tears
So there i was – Considering backing out As It wasn't meant to be I started to feel self pity, Thinking ‘this always happens to me’
But then something quite odd Happened in a flash Logic went out the window And I did something, rash
I walked up to you in our kitchen Not worrying about romantic patter There was no rose, no meal and no wine – that simply did not matter
I told You about the house sale How my plans had fallen through Then said ‘this proposal is still perfect, Because I get to make it… to you’
So There's just one thing shared From the life that we have led There are other memories I'll never forget And I look forward to more ahead
But the memory I'll treasure most My single biggest ‘wow’ Is the one that I am forming Pretty much right now
So Please join me in My final toast (& Don't tease me if I cried) I only did it to help the ending rhyme As we toast “the beautiful bride”
