Good afternoon everyone.

I had prepared a superb speech for you today, but unfortunately now that I am married … I've been told to read this one instead!

I'd like to start off by thanking you all for being with us today, to share our special day. It really means so much to us both that so many of our family and friends have travelled and made a huge effort to be here.… also in the knowledge that you're going to have to pay £5 for a pint. That is commitment and we really appreciate it.

I'd also like to say thank you for the lovely cards and gifts we have received and hope you are all enjoying the day as much as we are. We have several people we would like to thank so please bear with me…

To start, I'd like to thank the shiny new in-laws..… a special thank you to Tracy, Alan & Phil for accepting me in to their families and for bringing up such a lovely but sometimes difficult daughter (I'll leave you to argue which trait comes from who…) Thank you for making me feel so welcome, you have made it very easy for me to fit in and also a big thank you for all your help, support and contribution in putting our special day together, we couldn't have done it without you. I hope I can be everything you want from a son-in-law and more, and promise to always take care of your beautiful daughter.

I also can't let today go by without thanking my Mum & Dad for bringing me into the world and for all the love and support over the years. You should be proud that you raised such an intelligent, witty and handsome son!

You have made me what I am today and I know that has to make Rachel happy because she agreed to marry me, so, I hope I have made you both proud and I love you both dearly.

As a token of our appreciation, we have some gifts for both sets of parents.

I'd also like to thank Ann and Steve for their kind contribution towards our big day. Unfortunately as you know, it is not possible to have everyone we love with us here today, but we know they are here with us in spirit and they are not only in our thoughts but more importantly in our hearts, none more so than Rachel's grandad Steve. Steve was a such a kind and amazing person… and also Birkenhead's equivalent to Del Boy… the first time I met him he tried to sell me a Pogo Stick…! And still to this day can't get my head around why a double amputee owned a Pogo Stick…?!

Although he can't be with us today, I know how immensely proud he was of the amazing person which Rachel has become.

Ann, as a token of our appreciation, we have a gift for you, if you would like to come and get it.

Ok, the bridesmaids!! Kayleigh and Lauren, you both look stunning today and I'm sure everyone here will agree! I know I am briefed to tell you that but I do truly mean it, you both look amazing, especially in comparison to some of the drunken states which I've seen you in. Thank you for all the love and support you have given Rachel over the years, for arranging a fantastic hen do and for keeping her calm over the last 24 hours or so. A job I do not envy in the slightest.

As a token of our appreciation, we have a gift for both of you.

Thank you to my new little brother, our page boy Owen for your help today making our wedding extra special, you'll hate me saying it but you look very handsome in your suit and we have a little something for you also to say thank you for not losing the rings.

I suppose I should say a few words about the lady to my right… my WIFE!

Today you look simply stunning, I have never seen you look so beautiful as you do right now. Today as I waited at the end of the aisle – a little longer than expected!! – I saw you walk down and it made me realise how truly lucky I am. You are my best friend, my soul mate and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Thank you for marrying me and for loving me so much.

I must also thank Rachel for her incredible effort in making this day so perfect for us… Her planning… creativity… attention to detail.… and SPENDING POWER… has been beyond words…and she has worked so hard in making today so special. Having lived with Rachel for a couple of years now, I have learned a valuable lesson – when I'm wrong, admit it. When I'm right, keep my mouth shut!

Thank you for marrying me… And for making me the proudest man in the world… You're caring… Thoughtful….you always put others first… You challenge me….Support me… and love me for who I am … Whilst always, bringing out the best in me… I couldn't have found a more special person to take on life and grow old with… And I know.… That no matter what life throws at us you will always be there by my side…  And for that I am immensely grateful and love you very much… finally, I hope that every day will be as happy as today – just not as expensive.

Those of you who still can to stand, please join me in a toast to my beautiful wife… To Rachel.

Now before I hand you over to my best man, Marc, I must warn you that he has a tendency to exaggerate the truth slightly. With that in mind I'd urge you not to pay too much attention to what he is about to tell you over the next few minutes. Last week he told me he was more nervous than me, so please feel free to heckle him during his speech or now might be a good time to go and get yourselves a drink.

On a serious note though. we have been friends since high school when PlayStation 1 was the console to have, you have been a fantastic friend over the years (for now anyway!) and I was made up when you agreed to be our best man – hopefully you will be kind to me in your speech shortly as I know it's been hard making up stories to try and seem funny!

As a token of our appreciation and to thank you for being our Best Man today, we have a gift for you also.

That's it. Thanks to everyone once again and on behalf of Rachel & myself we hope you all have a great evening.
