Speech Creator: Gavin Crowe
Speech Date: Mar2003
Pete &amp Sue, Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of my wife and I, I would firstly like to thank all of you for coming on this special day, especially as most of you knew I would be saying a few words, and still decided to turn up. I would like to thank Pete for his kind words, they mean a lot to both Sarah and I, although I must say that it never ceases to amaze me what people will say when they are under oath, or after a couple of large scotches…………………………………..…

In all seriousness though, both Sarah and I are grateful to both Pete and Sue for a number of things. Both of us appreciate all the support and advice they have given us in the purchase of our first home, which has included allowing us to stay in the West Wing of your fantastic house for 4 months.

We would also like to thank you for organising such a wonderful day, which includes some of the finest wines France has to offer.

On a personal note, I would like to thank both of you for making me feel so welcome into your family. and for allowing me to marry your stunning daughter Sarah. I promise both of you that I will look after her, and love her with all of my heart.

Sarah and I have bought you a little something to show our appreciation. Although we did struggle to come up with something for the couple that seem to have everything.

Secondly I would like to thank my Mum and Dad for their love and support over the last 30 years. Yes mum I know that it seems longer, but I can assure you that it has only been 30 Both of you have given me the inspiration and determination to succeed, so thank you both.

Give M&ampD present

In addition, on behalf of Sarah and I, I would also like to pay tribute to the Ushers.

Firstly Steven Craig, if you would like to come up we have a small gift to say thank you for all your help and hard work today

Steve has been one of my longest and best friends. We have shared some hilarious moments together, many of which have been after consuming vast quantities of alcohol, I am sure we will all see him demonstrating his skills with a wine glass, although I do hope that we have enough wine. Thanks for leaving the straw at home Steve if you would like to come up

Simon my brother is soon to be travelling the globe to see and experience some of the wonders of the world, most of which I have been reliably informed can all be found in Pat Pong, Thailand. Simon, if you would like to come up Thanks for your efforts Simon.

My brother Adam, has been looking after the video cam for us today. Apparently though he has had a few technical problems as my friend Ben, who loves to be the centre to attention, has been permanently in shot, even during the ceremony…………………………….Don't worry Adam, there is an editing button.

By the way, those of you who do not know Ben, he is the person who keeps hogging the upstairs bathroom, and has probably asked a few of you ladies if you have a hair dyer handy, please just try to ignore him.

And finally but not forgetting Jim Foster. Jim if you'd like to come up.
Jim is the man who can take to a pair of water ski's like a duck to water, still looks good after 10 pints and a kebab, and who I have been keen to stand away from during the photos’ to ensure that my slightly un toned frame doesn't stand out too much. Yes Steve that's why I have been standing next to you for most of the pictures……………you makes me look good.

Thanks for all your efforts gents and for helping ensure that the day runs smoothly.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Dee who has done superb job with the flowers at the church and the reception. They have added a real sense of magic to the occasion. Give present to Dee

Also I would like to thank Lisa, for making such a wonderful reading and for working so hard with Dee on the flowers. Your words meant a lot to both Sarah and I, and if you felt as nervous as I do now, then I'm sorry we put you through it.

I would now like to move onto Sally and Harry, our beautiful Matron of Honour, and our “STAR” Page Boy. Both Sarah and I would like to thank you for looking so fantastic and for giving us all so much pleasure. Sarah has also requested that I pass on her thanks to you Sally for organising an unforgettable hen night.

Now moving on to the best man Mr Stephen Hammond. Steven is one of the most loyal and caring people I know. I've known The H Man, as he is known to some of us, since I was 18, and we have shared some great times together, details of which I am sure he will not be making reference to later on, as he will probably be keen to share some of the darker moments of my social life.

A great friend, I think I should warn you gorgeous single ladies out there that he fancies himself as a bit of a dazzler with the women, and tonight, he is free and single. So if he comes up to you later on, and asks whether or not you have played the ice cube game……………………..it could be your lucky night……………………………………………………… or not dependent on your perspective…………………………………………… Thanks for all your efforts Steve.

And finally the main reason we are all here today, my stunning wife Sarah, whom I love more than anyone here could possibly imagine. I can still remember the first day I met Foz, as her pals affectionately know her.
Both of us used to work for a company called ………………., an aggressive, sales recruitment company that had a reputation for employing some professional, but pretty ruthless people.

Luckily for Sarah and I the branch we worked for was under the guidance of Nick Gibson, and for those of you who know Nick, he likes to do things his way, and with his own kind of people. After disposing of most of the original staff in true Gibbo style, some how I managed to survive he began to build up his own team. Sarah was one of his first appointments and it broke new ground for the company. Here was someone who was stunning to look at, smart, intelligent, kind, articulate, with a fantastic sense of humour.

Over a short period of time both Sarah and I realised we had a lot in common, including the love of a pint or 3. With the help of some very subtle match making by Nick, our first date believe it or not was Swimming down at Maidenhead pool. Lads, as you are well aware I sure know how to show a woman a good time

After I'd fought the kids off who thought the inflatable session had began early, and I had showed off diving prowess with some top bombing, I then tried to keep up with Sarah as she rattled off 40 lengths. It was like John Candy, meets Daryl Hannah in Splash, and after 10 minutes I decided to meet her in the Jacuzzi………………..…

Our relationship quickly began to develop, and I soon realised what a special person Sarah is, what great fun she is to be around and how happy she makes me.

I have never met anyone quite like Sarah, and I know how lucky I am to be with her. I am so proud that I am standing here as her husband today, and I am looking forward to continuing to share the rich experiences that life has to offer us both as husband and wife.

Finally ladies and gentlemen, to conclude this speech, and to make way for the best man, will you please join me in drinking the traditional toast to our Maid of Honour Sally, and our pageboy Harry.

To Sally &amp Harry ………………………Cheers.
