Thankyou Noel for the kind words. Noel and Glenys have always made me feel
welcome in their home and I have always felt like just another one of the
gang in the Ward/Nielsen mob. If I may reminisce ? It all began many moons
ago on a warm summer's day, a barbeque overlooking the beach. This wasn't
any ordinary barbeque, it was the first in a "new trend" of barque themes,
which were going to change each week and began with the infamous vegetarian
barbie. I am not sure whose idea it was but it was declared a disaster and
the trend was scrapped, not to mention the banning of tofu.
Thankyou to Glenys for all her hard work organising the ceremony and the
reception. It was, is and continues to be an outstanding day, one I am sure
none of us will forget.
On behalf on my beautiful wife Carolyn, I would like to thank all of you
for your presence in both senses of the word. Thankyou for sharing our
special day with us. I would also like to make a special thankyou to "our
Samantha" for making the long journey from England to be here. We are very
happy to see you Sammy, although, it never surprises me how far you would
go for a free meal.
I would like everybody here, especially Carolyn, to know how happy and
proud I am to be standing here tonight speaking to you as her husband.
Carolyn is beautiful, caring, intelligent, charming and ? what's that? I
can't read your writing! I am overwhelmed by how beautiful she looks ? and
I thought that's what the dress would look like!
I tried for many hours to find the words that best describe her and I came
to realise that once you have met her you understand, just as I do, that
Carolyn is one of those special people who make you feel better about
everything. Carolyn does this through her love, her humour, her infectious
smile, her funny laugh and the way she can hiccup for hours.
I would like to thank both our parents, because without them, we wouldn't
be the smiling, happy people that we are today. Thank you for your love and
support, your wisdom and advice, for putting up with us and for pointing us
in the right direction.
It is said that a good speech has good beginning and a good ending, but a
great speech has the two of them very close together. Fortunately, I am
getting to the end.
Amongst studying, sitting for exams and working Michael has had to put up
with me on the phone trying to organise dates, suits, vests and found the
time to "enjoy" a quiet game of paintball. For those of you that haven't
heard of paintball I'll help you out, it involves a bunch of people wearing
face shields wielding air guns filled with paintballs which felt like more
marbles. Thanks Michael.
Where would a bride be without her bridesmaid? Bianca has done a fantastic
job over the last few months helping out with the invitations, the planning
and most importantly (so I'm told) the shopping! Thankyou for calming
Carolyn and for helping her and yourself to look so beautiful today. Ladies
and Gentlemen I would like to propose a toast to Bianca, the Bridesmaid.
