Speech by Steven Cookson

Speech Type: Groom
Speech Creator: Steven Cookson
Speech Date: dec 2004
Ladies and Gentlemen, you are about to witness a unique event in history. The very first and very last time that my Wife is going to let me speak on behalf of both of us. It is a privilege and an honour to do so. I just hope that, so soon into our married life, I don't let Steph down
16 months ago, we announced this date, and I can't believe it is finally here, the time seems to have gone so fast.

Thank you – all.
So firstly on behalf of me and my “wife!!!” I would like to thank you all for joining us and helping to make our special day.
We had considered getting married abroad, but we decided we would prefer to share our day with all of you. And I'm glad we did. Here's to all of you. 20 very special people in our lives, hand picked by us because of your devotion to both of us. (Toast) TO LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP.

Thank you – Parents
we would like to thank our parents as we wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them.
We would like to thank you for your love, support and advice you have given us over the years and for making us feel so welcome in your homes. We couldn't ask for better parents or parent in laws for that matter.
Thank you for all the help with today's preparations.

Thank you – Steph
I must thank Ste and Mel for bringing up such a lovely daughter.
I asked Mel, how Steph looked in her Wedding dress, she said she looked wonderful, and almost cried herself, but that didn't prepare me enough for when I saw her walk down the aisle. I was overwhelmed to the say the least by how beautiful she looks today.
So, to my wife, my bride and joy. – Thank you for everything you have done. You know everything about me and love me just the same. I have my faults, yet you still agreed to marry me. I feel like the luckiest man on earth today to be the one to marry you – and I hope this is the start of many happy years together.
Poem
When you are sad,
I will dry your tears.
When you are scared,
I will comfort your fears.
When you are worried,
I will give you hope.
When you are confused,
I will help you cope.
And when you are lost,
and can't see the light.
I shall be your beacon
shining so bright
this is my oath.
I pledge till the end.
Why you may ask?
Because you're my best friend.

Thank you – Steve (best man)
I would like to give a big thanks for a job well done, to my aptly named ‘best man’, Steve. My long-time cousin, friend, sidekick and a ‘great, really really nice bloke’…who would never say anything embarrassing about me in his speech… Let me assure you in advance that all the good stuff's true but anything else is pure fiction.

Thank you – Jordan
Although he's not here, thanks must go to the little monster we know as Jordan, he was a little star and looked really smart in that little suit.

Thank you – Bridesmaids
Last but by no means least, a big thanks to the bridesmaids, you all look stunning and have done yourselves and us proud. Thanks for looking after Steph this morning and helping to get her to the church. Also, thanks must go to Beth who really looked lovely and did an excellent job.

Well they say ‘In public speaking, if you don't strike oil in five minutes, stop boring.’ So I'll hand you over to a nervous Steve for the best speech, but before I do, a word of advice.

To keep your marriage brimming, with love in your wedding cup. Whenever you're wrong admit it, whenever you're right shut up.

Final Toast
Here are some words to live by: Love to one, friendship to many, and goodwill to all.
