Speech by Stuart Morris
I would like to say a massive thank you to Alan Hopkinson who posted his speech a good two years before me, from which I have stolen a few verses word for word. I have also used some of his verses and changed them, and used some for inspiration, but the majority is my own writing. Thanks Alan, whoever you are!

Now it's time for my speech, The part of the day I've dreaded, Still it must be done, It's the price I pay to be wedded. A traditional groom's speech is dull, I can't think of anything worse, So I've decided to buck convention, And deliver this speech in verse.
I hope you will not think it rubbish, I hope it will brighten your day, I don't speak in public much, It's been a while since I've been nervous this way.
To try and help it go well, To keep it at its best, I've tried to keep it short, I hope it passes the test.
I haven't written a poem before I didn't know where to start, But soon it all became clear, It needs to come from the heart.
Welcome all to our wedding day, Thank you all for attending, We hope you enjoy the festivities, Given the amount we're spending.
This day has been long in the pipeline, We have been planning it since twenty ten, I proposed on Christmas day, Where has the time gone since then?
Things have gone so fast, So much has happened in that time, I'll need a moment to sit down, And enjoy the fact Emma is mine.
Last October our lives changed forever, Along came our baby boy, I'd like to say thank you to him, For bringing me so much joy.
As I wrote this speech, I wondered how he would behave, Hopefully his behaviour has been better, Then when he's old enough to shave.
But on a more serious note, I'm sure you'll all agree He has been a little star, All of the best bits of Emma and me.
Moving on to the thank-yous, There are lots of people to mention, I'll try to keep this brief, To try and hold your attention.
Beginning with my mum and dad, Your help has been extensive, Without you we wouldn't be here, The wedding was way too expensive.
Your guidance in life has been essential, You have always been there for me, I couldn't have asked for better, All the best things in life are free.
Emma's family deserve a special thanks, My life could have been a different story, For bringing Emma into the world, You deserve all the glory.
To Lynne we are forever grateful, The time you have been willing to share, For looking after Oscar, And for cutting my messy hair.
And now for one I think will be embarrassing, It certainly won't draw a smile, A massive thank you to Kieran, For walking Emma down the aisle.
To my best men I am grateful, You performed your duties with pride, Soon I will listen to your speech, I'll do my best not to hide.
And now onto the bridesmaids, Who are all so beautifully dressed, You have been a special part of this day, With you all I have been impressed.
As is customary at this time, I would ask you all to rise, A toast please to the bridesmaids, For your help you win first prize.
TOAST
There are so many people to thank, I don't have time to mention them all, I'll quickly rattle through the names, And try to go faster than a crawl.
To Mum and Claire for your readings, To Margaret and Val for the cake, To my ushers Dad and Chris, A wonderful day you have all helped make.
To Freya and Charley, Our lovely flower girls, And to Sean our photographer, He's the one with the curls.
To Oscar and Jamie, The cutest of page boys, I hope you liked being here, Rather than playing with your toys.
And now to everyone here, Thank you for giving up your time, There is one more thing I ask of you, Please stay to the end of this rhyme.
And so I turn to my wife, The sparkling lady by my side, I'm sure you'll agree she looks gorgeous, I'm just so proud that she's my bride.
So for your information, Here is the story of how we met, It's not a long or classy story, But it's interesting I'll bet.
I'll start the story at the start, I'll start with where it began, We met at a Christmas party, I became her biggest fan.
We hit it off right away, We had such a good time, From that moment our lives joined, Over a glass of fizzy wine.
We started to email, We started to chat, Msn messenger, Our relationship began with that.
We swiflty moved on, We decided to meet, What better way to acquaint, Than dancing to a beat.
We had so much fun, I'd never felt so free, What a time I was having, Even after our trip to A and E
For those that do not know, To avoid rumours that are easy to stoke, I'd like to say on record, It was my leg that she broke.
I'm sure Emma would say different, I don't think she'd agree, But dancing while drunk, I blame her not me.
But even after this unusual moment, We stayed together all this while, Emma is the girl for me, We've just been lacking in style.
Which brings me to a Christmas day, When I got down one knee, I asked her to make me her husband, And when she yes we cried with glee.
And so a few words about her, She is funny, pretty and smart, A gorgeous English rose, A real work of art.
She's all that I could wish for, A wife that's truly exciting, I could go on with the plaudits, But I can't read Emma's writing.
But on a serious note, Please all be upstanding, For a toast to my wife, A bride who is truly outstanding.
TOAST
So by now you will be glad to hear, My speech is almost done, There's not much more for me to say, I hope you have found it fun.
After all of our hard work, The formal part is over, Just don't expect much from our first dance, Emma's car was hit last week by a Land Rover.
The church was magical, The weather was crap, After all of these years, Emma has fallen in my trap.
OR
The church was magical, The weather was great, After all of these years, Emma has landed on my plate.
I'm told that the secret of marriage, And for us men a rule of thumb, Is that whenever you are wrong just admit it, And when you're right just stay shtum
It really makes me proud, To wear this wedding ring, This is the start, This is where our lives begin.
So thank you all for coming, For putting up with this, I've nearly finished my speech, On to wedded bliss.
A final mention goes to the hotel, For making our day run true, For your hospitality and welcome, Our many thanks are due.
So now my speech is over, We are finally husband and wife, I promise I will love and cherish you Emma, Each day for the rest of my life.
