Speech by Yinster

Writing the speech was the easy part. How? Simple. Google is your friend and copy and paste. Find lots of speeches online and take the bits you like. Then edit the words to make it relevant to you. So it evolves into something pretty personal, funny and sweet. Well I hope so. Then as I had time on my hands I changed the words about to fit film titles in. In the end I managed to put 51 film titles into my speech. These film titles became the bingo idea. Everyone had a bingo card with 25 film titles with everyone having the last film. In theory it meant everyone won by replying "As You Wish." Th

Someone once said that a good speech has both a good beginning and a good ending. A great speech however keeps both of these CLOSER together…

One of the problems I've had is the middle bit!.… Too short and everyone gets very rare beef, too long and it's well done! Bearing this in mind, I'm aiming for Medium rare!….It's definitely not 48 HOURS long and should be 30 MINUTES OR LESS.

As there are a number of toasts in my speech, I'd like to make sure that all of you have your glasses topped UP.Alrighty then whilst you are all topping your glasses, I thought I'd let you know how Lisa & I first met…

Apparently she spy me from afar, every year at Youth Assembly from 2005. Then in 2008 we were both going to World Youth Day in Sydney, AUSTRALIA. Before we went on the trip we made a bet. Suffice to say I won the bet and had LIMITLESS ice cream from Lisa which I shared with Lisa. And because we got to spend a lot of time together she fell for my charms, wit and cuteness. It was a bit like CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. Then last year in 2012 we got engaged in Central Park, New York on Lisa's 30 birthday when I thought it was ABOUT TIME and said “How about it?” and the rest is history.

It's showtime. Firstly I would like to thank any Rangers fans for still being here and not walking out at 4.30 as usual. As if.

On behalf of Lisa and I, thank you to all our friends and families being here today for MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING. Our story is not without a strong supporting cast. You have been there to guide, influence, encourage and teach and have STEP UP where we needed you the most. You have helped to make us who we are. Since we can't express enough how grateful we are we hope you enjoy today as a wee gift for all you've done. And later you see my HAPPY FEET where there be some DIRTY DANCING. You are our favourite people in the world. You are our plastic bags beautifully floating in the wind. To infinity and Beyond. Be excellence to each other and party on dudes. And if anyone is free in February you are all more than welcome to come and join us in Orlando and the Caribbean. BRING IT ON

A toast: To everyone in this room – THE BREAKFAST CLUB

Unfortunately, it's has been MISSION IMPOSSIBLE to have everyone we love here with us today, but we know they're here with us in spirit and they're not only in our thoughts today, but more importantly they're with us in our hearts.

A toast: To Absent Friends and Family – THE USUAL SUSPECTS

To Lisa's MAMMA MIA. Lisa has written a few words. My mum ELIZABETH has always been such an inspiration to me and someone to look up to. She went back to university to get her degree whilst bringing up Robert and I when we very young on her own so we could have the best in life.

My Mom, Dad. The most generous couple you can ever meet. To the point they are giving away my inheritance. A special thank you for all your love and support over the years. You've always been there when I've needed you. I feel extremely fortunate to have such wonderful parents. I hope this doesn't get LOST IN TRANSLATION. You two have taught me the value of love and more importantly, unconditional love. I really believe that you have made me the person that I am today, and I thank you endlessly for that. It must be very hard to come to terms that you raised THE GOLDEN CHILD.

A Toast: To Mom, Dad and Elizabeth – MEET THE PARENTS

Thanks go to everyone who has been involved in today's proceedings.

Uncle B for being FATHER OF THE BRIDE and giving Lisa away. Great Scot

G for being my Best Person, THE LORD OF THE RINGS. She has been there whenever I needed her. You can be my wingman anytime.

G and P for being Lisa's BRIDESMAIDS and helping Lisa. Hey you guys.

Say hello to my little friends – O and S for being Flower-girls and E and M for being page boys. THE FANTASTIC FOUR.

S & S for being great ushers and such a SISTER ACT and being so helpful whenever asked to. S did a lot of the decorations and made those cranes all by herself. S helped with all the music and will DJ later on with J. Yeah Baby Yeah

A toast: To all those mentioned, THE A-TEAM

I now come to the most important person in my life…..… there can only be one. My best friend. To borrow a few words from a song, by Embrace. HONEY, it's been a long time coming and I can't stop smiling and I can't stop now!

Today just didn't happen. Though it is going 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS. We have been planning this ONE DAY for about eighteen months. Well, I say “we”, Lisa actually did most of the work as I am a bit CLUELESS. She did let me have some things though. Though no onesies reception. And the flower girls aren't in a bumblebee and ladybird outfit. Seriously though, Lisa became THE WEDDING PLANNER. There were a couple of GREMLINS including the wedding dress situation which put things UP IN THE AIR but we handled it well and everything has gone without a HITCH so to Lisa well done and thank you. It has beenEPIC so far.

I feel so lucky to have married someone who's intelligent, good-looking, ENCHANTED, has a great sense of humour and…bloody hell sorry Lisa, I can't read your writing – what does that say?!

But seriously though, even though we are complete opposites we somehow work. We are like THE GOONIES. Sometimes though it does feels like SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY, as we both work for rival companies. You prefer Rangers. You like reality tv shows and soaps whilst i can't stand them. Your love of Boyzone. I tried working 9 TO 5 and hated it.

My love for KFC. I'm not a sausage lover. The list goes on.

We had to have two wedding cakes with mine from CHINATOWN because we couldn't compromise. However we do complement each other. I like Man Vs Food for the food whilst you like the man, Adam Richman. Lisa knows how to use an IRON. MAN I don't. You don't like fruit or vegetables whilst I eat almost everything including what's on your plate. You use me as your personal hot water bottle when you feel cold. Oh Behave You hate surprises whilst I love them (gives Lisa the gift)

My PRETTY WOMAN Thanks to you I am very happy, and lucky that you LET ME IN to your life and I know we have a great future together. Now I will never be HOME ALONE. Someone who will STAND BY ME no matter what. You are extremely BRAVE to say yes when you finally work out I was proposing to you. My precious. Thank you for making this the best day of my life so far, and I hope that every day will be just as happy as today, this ONE FINE DAY…….but less expensive.

So I finish with these words. That might be familiar to some people here.

I don't know, but I believe

That some things are meant to be

And that you'll make a better me

I never thought that dreams came true

But you showed me that they do

You know that I learn something new

‘Cause I believe that destiny

Is out of our control

And you'll never live until you love

With all your heart and soul.

It's a touch when I feel bad

It's a smile when I get mad

All the little things I am

If I asked would you say yes?

Together we're the very best

I know that I am truly blessed

And I'll give you my best

Everyday I love you

A final toast from me: To Lisa, THE PRINCESS BRIDE We come to love not by finding a perfect person but learning to see an imperfect person perfectly. She knows everything about me, yet loves me just the same. PS. I LOVE YOU- As you wish
