For those that don't know me, I'm Lisa, Kim's maid of honor.
Kim and I have been friends since we were teenagers. We met about 19 years ago at what was at the time our favorite place in the world…the mall. We both worked part time at a little clothing store at Washington Square Mall. We bonded instantly based on the fact that neither of us could stand the supervisor! I mean this woman drove us crazy so to repay her, we spent our workdays finding creative ways to torment her and amuse ourselves in the process. Of course we both ended up leaving that that job (one of us involuntarily) but our friendship continued on.
As you can imagine, knowing someone for almost 20 years allows you the unique opportunity to actually watch them grow, mature, and evolve into adulthood. After all these years one thing that has never changed is Kim's giving spirit. I imagine that anyone that knows her knows that she will give you the shirt off her back… LITERALY. I know I'm not the only one here with some of her hand-me downs in their closet…but I have always admired her ability to find time for EVERYONE and somehow still be able to make every single function, every single get together, every celebration, if your sick expect that she's coming by your house, if there is an emergency she's is going to find a way or make a way to help you get through it…and what's crazy is she does all this in a way that makes you feel like your special like you're the only one she has this close knit relationship with…but no…she like that with everyone, that's just the type of person she is…and I have always wondered how she does it. I've always thought to myself, she must be exhausted, because she is ALWAYS running and taking care of or helping someone… in addition to taking care of her own life.
So anyway time goes on like that for a while… and eventually she and Al start dating. They actually were together for a little while before I REALLY met him, but even without meeting him I knew the kind of man he was based on the impact he had on her. Women, even independent women who can take care of themselves, who do the right things, who live happy fulfilling lives — you notice a difference in a woman when they have the love and support of a REAL MAN. I see that difference in Kim, and I know that's what she has in Al.
Although she hasn't slowed down at all, there is an almost indescribable but obvious difference in her…a difference that let's me know that I don't have to worry about her taking care of everyone else and neglecting herself anymore…because I know that AL is ready, willing, and able to take of her.
Please join me by raising your glasses and join me in congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Jeffries on the day we have all been waiting soooo long for!
