Wedding Speeches

Hi Many thanks to you all at 'hitched.co.uk'. I used your advice and some of the sample speeches to help with my speech and it went down a storm......mentioning three of the 20th century's biggest mass murderers even went down well, which should probably worry me about the standard of the average wedding guest in attendance!! The only advice I could give is to have confidence in what you say.......these people are much like pitbulls and can smell fear a mile away!! Or maybe that's just my friends........... Dear Hitched, Thanks very much for the help your website gave me. It was great to read all of the examples of speeches and see just how to pitch it! The speech I've attached took about 10 minutes to give, luckily with the guests laughing in all the right places! But the best advice I can give is just to read it out loads of times before the actual event - then autopilot takes over where the nerves are trying to cock you up and then it's over before you know it! Even got congratulated by a guy in the ordinance that speaks public all the time. I gave this speech on 4th August 2002. Thanks for a great website, the other speeches gave me a great start for mine and some good ideas for jokes, I got laughs in all the right places and compliments afterwards too. I'd also like to thank Kelly Robinson for posting her speech, it was great to discover that there were other Best Women out there. Dear Hitched, Thanks very much for the help you gave me writing the speech, as you can see most of it is plagiarised!!!! My only advise would be to practise delivering your speech as much as possible- as the way a speech is read on paper, to how it is delivered is completely different - e.g.. some things I thought were funny written down didn't work when I read them out! This speech was delivered by my Son Simon when he gave away his sister Rebecca on 20 July 2002. Unfortunately my husband passed away 3 years ago and after this speech there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

I was asked to be the Best Man in for a wedding in August 2002 and found your site invaluable in preparing the speech. Since making my speech, other than the nerves of speaking in from of a large group of people, it all went very smoothly. I have been told since that my speech was one of the best that the guests had heard. The only advice I would give to anyone else who has found themselves in the same position is not to rely on making a speech from parts of other peoples, but write your own and then add tried and tested one liners. This will make the speech flow more freely as you are speak

Dear Hitched Back in 1999 i said that I would be using your site again if I ever needed to, but I didn't Realise that it would be for my own wedding Once again you came up trumps when I eventually did the decent thing in August 2002.
