Wedding Speeches

These are the words i used to do the 'Father of the bride' speech for my step-daughter who wedded yesterday to a splendid man. All natural parents attended the wedding ceremony and reception and found they liked their discarded partners' partner! Good folk all around - how exceptional is that?

This speech went down very well, Loads of laughter at the North Wales bit. The Pork joke not so much laughter because only half the audience got it ,other half said thats not her favourite meal. Overall received very well, Lots of positive comments on the night.

I was asked to stand in as Father of the bride at my Nieces wedding, as sadly her father passed away when she was a baby.  Whilst it was an immense honour and privlege to do this, the speech gave me concerns as I wanted to mention her dad, but without being too sad, and also mentioning her mum who has raised 3 children all on her own - and they are all amazing individuals.  Your website gave me so much help in both some of the content but also the structure of the speech - so thank you.  I hope uploading my speech can help others.   My speech went down a storm, and everyone complimented me o

I really enjoyed giving my speech and made a deliberate effort not to rush it as sometimes happens with public speaking. Prepare well in advance and add to it and make changes as ideas come to you. Try and personalise it as much as possible without too many random jokes thrown in. Memorise the entire speech but refer to a written copy constantly whilst delivering it. In my case I became a little over confident and missed a small but important part of my speech. Nevertheless it was enjoyable and went down well with the guests.

I really enjoyed giving my speech and this site helped a lot with tips and also a couple of jokes. My advice would be to prepare thoroughly and learn it by heart so that you don't have to read directly from your notes - just use them as a prompt.
