The magically rustic Hay Barn is set in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire and is surrounded by fields and beautiful, ancient woodlands. It is the ideal venue for couples seeking an alternative wedding celebration. Here, guests and newlyweds alike can immerse themselves in nature and enjoy a truly rustic and original occasion. The 250-acre Camp Hill estate encapsulates pleasant meadowlands, picturesque woodlands, endless greenery and a host of glamping facilities.

Facilities and Capacity

The Hay Barn is a place in which couples can curate their dream day to their liking. Whether they wish to exchange vows outdoors or in the beautiful stone Hay Barn, the choice is yours!

From 2026, wedding breakfast will take place in our newly renovated orangery, with floor to ceiling height windows looking out over the lawn, and seating for up to 140 guests.

There are two bars on site, faciliting the flow of the day perfectly - and you can even host drinks in our 'Snug Bar' the evening before your wedding too!

Dancing in the evening takes place back in the Hay Barn, which is beautifully characterised by lofty ceilings, exposed brick walls, and wooden accents. The venue is a blank canvas upon which you can project your wedding vision and theme.

Services Offered

An in-house wedding coordinator collaborates with prospective newlyweds to ensure every detail of their day is tended to. They present couples with various wedding package options and assist with everything from recommended suppliers to timings and your drinks. The welcoming staff wishes to make every client’s wilderness wedding dreams a straightforward and effortlessly realised reality.

The Hay Barns stands proudly on the Camp Katur estate - which boasts some truly unique accommodation. Everything from lodges to GeoDomes and the outstanding Lyra (ideal for the wedding couple!) is available to hire on a two-night basis, and the site can accommodate most of your wedding party - meaning you can start the celebrations together the night before your big day! We wanted a relaxed outdoors venue

Receiving our first draft, it took me a good few attempts to read it out loud to Tom, I was very emotional. The ceremony was wonderful and very personal to us and our families. Jan did a fantastic job at capturing what we wanted to say and conducted the words beautifully. “
“Not only did Jan write and perform a beautiful ceremony, she was wedding co-ordination on the day too. Me being a total control freak, couldn't comprehend how she could be in 3 places at once on such a big estate, but she managed it. Not only did she help us dress the ceremony space, she was delivering breakfasts to the bridal party and orchestrating suppliers arriving all with a cool head.

Camp Katur does have a lovely barn

Camp Katur has the most amazing and quirky glamping accommodation on site. As we were having people travel from overseas and all over the UK we decided to book the entire site for two nights to accommodate all our guests. It was a great way to spend extra time with our guests and drag out the celebrations.
It was magical service it was emotional, and was personal to us, it was unique and it was perfect. It was seriously my favourite part of the whole day and it was everything I dreamed of and more. Jan pulled together perfectly all the things that sum us up as a couple - I felt like she climbed inside my head and pulled out exactly what I had imagined it would be in my mind.
Everyone was blown away by the standard and variety of accommodation. It really is the most special place , surrounded by trees and stars, it was a dream come true.”
I think the amount of tears witnessed speaks for itself!

The ceremony & co-ordination was all carried our by Jan Shillito who we cannot thank enough for the amazing work and time that went into making our day perfect we had an in-depth questionnaire and then a consultation which helped us to express how we felt on paper and brought back good memories that we to the back of our minds. Jan then sent us drafts of our script to feedback on.. the only words we could use to describe the first read was “wow”. Just by reading the script remind us why we hadn’t gone for a more traditional church or register office ceremony, we knew then it was going to be a ceremony like no other any of our gusts had ever been to. The ceremony was so personal to us, covering how we met, out thoughts and feeling towards one another, our families, those we have lost and reading perfectly suited to us. There was not a dry eye throughout, it captured everyone’s emotions just as we’d expected and everyone has been saying ever since they never been to such a surreal different and beautiful wedding” Jan Made it everything we’d dreamed of and more”

Beautiful venue, horrendously organised

Our wedding day at Camp Katur was of course the best day of our lives but I fear it could have gone very differently. The venue itself is stunning and was the perfect location for us but the whole planning process was a complete shambles. The venue continuously gave us mixed messages to the point of outright lying to us and I spent most of the run up to the wedding in tears because I didn't trust they'd be able to pull it off. If you want to do things slightly different to the norm, they don't seem to have a single clue what they are doing.
