Overlooking Fingle Woods and the wider Teign Valley, serenaded by a chorus of birdsong, it offers you and your wedding party the perfect escape and exclusive use of the venue and its on-site accomodation for the whole weekend. You have the freedom to taylor your wedding to truly reflect your personalities and the Clifford Barton team offers unlimited advice and support throughout the planning process and on the day to help realise the wedding weekend of your dreams.
Facilities and Capacity
Situated in 50 acres of serene private lake, woodlands, streams and meadows, Clifford Barton is particularly well suited to couples who love nature and the great outdoors, and is exclusively yours for the entirety of your celebrations. Set in a medieval farmstead, the venue boasts a unique blend of ancient charm and modern luxury for you and your guests. Clifford Barton is not only one of the prettiest venues in Devon, but one of the most sustainable, with all accomodation heated from an on site wood chip boiler, using chip sourced from the adjacent Fingle Woods. There is an off-grid wood-fired hot tub with breathtaking views over the valley below, perfect for a pre-wedding bridal party relaxation. The venue is extremely flexible, offering a host of areas and facilities for different activities and games. Whilst highly professional, Clifford Barton is family-run and is ideal for couples seeking a non-corporate, relaxed wedding weekend. Licensed to host civil ceremonies, couples can make their lifelong commitments overlooking the aptly named Bridesmere Lake. With your guests looking on from under the beautiful chapel-esque timber bridge, there can't be many more romantic settings to start married life together. Then perhaps lead a romantic walk around the lake, enjoy lakeside drinks and nibbles, before returning to the magically light and airy stone-walled Rose Barn for your Reception. Included in the package is a wonderfully romantic off-grid love-nest cabin, with fantastic views up the Teign gorge, where having left the fesivities behind you can sit out under the stars in front of an open fire and reflect on the day and your future life together.
Services Offered
We understand that you'll want the freedom to design the wedding of your dreams. At Clifford Barton, whilst we can recommend caterers who we've worked with in the past, you are free to book the caterers and other suppliers of your choice. The Clifford Barton team offers you as much support and advice as you want to plan your weekend, and are present throughout the weekend to provide hands-on support, coordination and anything else you need to realise your dream wedding. You and your guests can enjoy a luxurious stay from Friday through to Monday in the three on-site cottages, sleeping up to 22 guests, with a further 10 guests able to stay on site in our bell tents. There is also an adjacent campsite as well as a range of local accomdoation for guests to stay in.

Incredible setting for a wedding
Stunning and unique venue in the Dartmoor countryside with incredible hosts
Completely & Utterly LOVED
We feel really lucky to have found it and grabbed one of their limited hot spots. When you first come into Clifford Barton, you want to take a photo - the surroundings are so beautiful, giving a real feeling of seclusion and tranquility.
The thing that made it for us was the friendliness and willingness from Vicki and Gavin. They are just so lovely and great and wonderful and made our day feel exactly how we imagined it to. We didn't want a typical wedding venue but also knew we wanted guidance and help and Clifford Barton is where we found our happy medium.
Vicki and Gavin really ran with the creative ideas that we presented to them, even on the day when it was a little on the rainy side, they totally rolled with it and allowed for flexibility.
There are multiple places to hold your ceremony at the venue; The lake, the woods, the corn barn - each of them are gorgeous. The barn is already decorated beautifully with lighting and you can add whatever you like to make it unique and special to you.
Our guests loved that there were multiple areas for them to go to and being able to stay on site in the cottages was a real bonus. We were able to have most of our guests stay really close to the venue, whether it be in the cottages or bell tents on site, camping in the campsite next door or the various rental cottages 5 mins away. This was lush to have everyone take a holiday down in Devon and make a weekend of it.

The most incredible day
The setting is rustic, untarnished and pure beauty. There’s a great degree of flexibility for location of your ceremony and many opportunities to personalise along the way.
They were both so friendly and approachable as well, and offered guidance and wisdom when we asked.
It’s so lovely having everyone one one site but spread out enough that you don’t feel cooped up. There’s a range of accommodation portions both onsite and loads in the local area as well; alongside a honeymoon cabana which was 1) incredibly comfy 2) bloody beautiful to wake up to the next morning and we definitely plan to head back to celebrate need our anniversary.
We couldn’t have asked for a better day, which was made even better with it being held at Clifford Barton and supported by Gavin and Vicki. Thank you both so much!
A very special wedding venue
We had the most wonderful weekend, which was sympathetically and enthusiastically hosted by Gavin, Vicki and family. If you want a personal touch, not to feel rushed, with a strong focus on ecology, the environment and being is a beautiful place then this is a wonderful choice for you.
Gavin and Vicki were super flexible and we had our ceremony in the boat house by the lake and then the registrar met us in there woodlands to make it official. Followed by food and dancing in the hall. All of there's locations are stunning and obviously cared for by our hosts with great passion.
The canoe bar by the lake to serve drinks is a beautiful touch.
The day after the wedding not having to rush off was wonderful. We had the venue from the Friday to the Monday with the Saturday being our big day. With guests staying on site between the beautifully furnished cottages and the bell tents. The next day we had plenty of time to spend with friends and family. A walk down to the river for a dip is wonderful. With plenty of time to reminisce over the past day. And a wood burning hot tub on the Sunday evening with woodland views was a special way to finish.
We can not find fault with our experience and would enthusiastically recommend Clifford Barton.

Amazing Clifford Barton
3 venues in one!
The venue itself is spectacular. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. We chose it because we felt like it was 3 venues in one with our ceremony in the beautiful woodland, our drinks reception by the lake and our reception in the magical fairy-lit barn. What made it even more special was that there was plenty of space onsite for our family and wedding party to stay and we had the venue for the whole weekend so we could relax and take it all in.

Great venue, a little pricey
However, I would warn that you would need to be willing to pay a lot of money for the lake and a few walls. Even though the customer service was great and the owners were very friendly face to face, when reading the contract we found it is very strict and made us feel that we could be penalised at any time even though on the day it did not seem so. Furthermore, they do not provide or include any of the usual wedding attire you would expect such as tables and table cloths and cutlery, the bar service and the accommodation is not included in the venue hire price and all sorts of other things that we did not realise until after we signed the contract and found out it would cost a lot of money on top of the venue price which is quite high to start with. If you are willing to spend around £10000 or more just for the venue, accommodation and usual venue attire, then it is perfect. We were actually relieved when Covid restrictions meant that we were not allowed to stay at the venue or use the barn because the owners then offered us an alternative deal which cut our venue costs to a third of what we were initially going to pay.
Idyllic venue for your special day
We married under the Bridesmere Bridge which overlooks the pretty lake surrounded by lush green Devon countryside.
The sun shone, wild flowers bloomed all around and for us it was a perfect day with our 29 guests.
Vicki and Gavin are incredibly kind, thoughtful and flexible and helped us adjust our day when Covid restrictions were implemented, even though it was all so new for them too.
We would highly recommend Clifford Barton for you special day and I’m sure, whatever the weather, yours will be as perfect as ours!
