Situated in 50 acres of serene nature reserve, Clifford Barton is particularly well suited to couples who love nature amd the great outdoors, and is exclusively yours for the entirety of your celebrations. Set in a medieval farmstead, the venue boasts a unique marriage of ancient charm and modern luxury for you and your guests. What’s more, a wedding with Clifford Barton is not only one of the prettiest in Devon, but one of the most sustainable. There is an off-grid wood-fired hot tub with great views over the valley below, perfect for a pre-wedding bridal party relaxation session. This venue is extremely flexible with many different areas for different activities and games. Clifford Barton is family run and ideal for a "non-corporate" relaxed, chilled out wedding day. Licensed to host civil ceremonies, you can say "I do" while overlooking the aptly named Bridesmere Lake. With your guests looking on from under the beautiful open-sided chapel-esque bridge, there can't be many more romantic or intimate settings to make your vows and start married life together. Then perhaps lead the way for a romantic walk around the lake, enjoy lakeside drinks and nibbles, before returning to the magical Swallow Barn for the reception. There is also a romantic, off-grid eco-pod with fantastic valley views, where you can sit out under the stars in front of an open fire and reflect on the day and the memories which will last a lifetime.

The onsite team understands that you'll want total control to design the wedding of your dreams. At Clifford Barton, you can have the caterers and suppliers of your choice, while the team is available to offer advice, suggestions and a helping hand. Event planning, support and on-the-day coordination are some of the many services offered. Once your celebrations have drawn to a close, you and your guests can enjoy a luxurious stay in the three converted barns, sleeping up to 22 guests. There are also bell tents for hire on-site and an adjacent campsite.

Best Wedding Venue in Devon
We were lucky that the rain held off long enough for us to hold our ceremony by the lake, but it did rain later on in the day. This had been a concern of ours in choosing an outdoor/rural setting, however, it didn't dampen the festivities and it was actually lovely having everyone inside the barn, dancing and mingling.
We very much recommend Clifford Barton to anyone looking to get married in the Devon area.
A very special wedding venue
We had the most wonderful weekend, which was sympathetically and enthusiastically hosted by Gavin, Vicki and family. If you want a personal touch, not to feel rushed, with a strong focus on ecology, the environment and being is a beautiful place then this is a wonderful choice for you.
Gavin and Vicki were super flexible and we had our ceremony in the boat house by the lake and then the registrar met us in there woodlands to make it official. Followed by food and dancing in the hall. All of there's locations are stunning and obviously cared for by our hosts with great passion.
The canoe bar by the lake to serve drinks is a beautiful touch.
The day after the wedding not having to rush off was wonderful. We had the venue from the Friday to the Monday with the Saturday being our big day. With guests staying on site between the beautifully furnished cottages and the bell tents. The next day we had plenty of time to spend with friends and family. A walk down to the river for a dip is wonderful. With plenty of time to reminisce over the past day. And a wood burning hot tub on the Sunday evening with woodland views was a special way to finish.
We can not find fault with our experience and would enthusiastically recommend Clifford Barton.

Amazing Clifford Barton
3 venues in one!
The venue itself is spectacular. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. We chose it because we felt like it was 3 venues in one with our ceremony in the beautiful woodland, our drinks reception by the lake and our reception in the magical fairy-lit barn. What made it even more special was that there was plenty of space onsite for our family and wedding party to stay and we had the venue for the whole weekend so we could relax and take it all in.

Great venue, a little pricey
However, I would warn that you would need to be willing to pay a lot of money for the lake and a few walls. Even though the customer service was great and the owners were very friendly face to face, when reading the contract we found it is very strict and made us feel that we could be penalised at any time even though on the day it did not seem so. Furthermore, they do not provide or include any of the usual wedding attire you would expect such as tables and table cloths and cutlery, the bar service and the accommodation is not included in the venue hire price and all sorts of other things that we did not realise until after we signed the contract and found out it would cost a lot of money on top of the venue price which is quite high to start with. If you are willing to spend around £10000 or more just for the venue, accommodation and usual venue attire, then it is perfect. We were actually relieved when Covid restrictions meant that we were not allowed to stay at the venue or use the barn because the owners then offered us an alternative deal which cut our venue costs to a third of what we were initially going to pay.
Idyllic venue for your special day
We married under the Bridesmere Bridge which overlooks the pretty lake surrounded by lush green Devon countryside.
The sun shone, wild flowers bloomed all around and for us it was a perfect day with our 29 guests.
Vicki and Gavin are incredibly kind, thoughtful and flexible and helped us adjust our day when Covid restrictions were implemented, even though it was all so new for them too.
We would highly recommend Clifford Barton for you special day and I’m sure, whatever the weather, yours will be as perfect as ours!
