Named as the best wedding venue in the South West in the prestigious South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2023, Blackfriars Priory is an unrivalled, multi-award winning, 13th-century historic landmark nestled in the heart of Gloucester. Enjoy the private courtyard garden, the splendid scale of the original scissor-braced roof in the iconic North Range, which displays original 13th century oak beams that were gifted to the site by King Henry III. The site also houses the Scriptorium, which is believed to the the oldest and most well preserved medieval library in Northern Europe.

Couples can add their own strand to the tapestry of Blackfriars Priory history. With the capability of only holding a limited number of weddings per year, you are guaranteed a personalised service and access to our passionate and dedicated team.

Facilities and Capacity

The site holds a number of rooms, catering from as few as 5 to as many as 230 guests. Measures have been taken to make the venue as accessible as possible, with a ramp at the front entrance and lifts in our main spaces and a hearing loop available onsite.

Services Offered

Blackfriars Priory packages can cater events from 10 to 250 guests in size guests and make sure that your wedding day is perfect. Ranging from the ceremony to the wedding breakfast, right the way through to the evening reception, this venue truly is a magical place to have your wedding.

Two licenced spaces are available. The North Range is a room with the wow factor, with a towering scissor braced roof, breathtaking architecture and a fully glazed wall overlooking the ancient ruin in the garden. This space can accommodate up to 150 guests seated for a meal and up to 250 for your evening function.

Perfect for an intimate wedding with your closest friends and family, The East Range is a stunning building with warm natural light flooding the room. This room can hold up to 60 people for a ceremony and 50 seated for a meal.

Micro ceremonies are also available in the 'Old Kitchen' in the lower East Range.

Catering is provided by one of our specially selected catering partners, who have been chosen due to their stance on sustainability, incredible menus and impeccable service. Our catering partners can cater to any culinary requests, with partners specialising in European, Indian, Eastern and African cuisines, as well as street food and informal dining.
