Weddings With a Wild Side.

Nestled in the Olchon Valley near Hereford in England's Herefordshire region, Lower House Farm is a picturesque barn wedding venue. Here, you can escape the world outside and reconnect with nature as you celebrate your once-in-a-lifetime day at the foot of the Black Mountains. Set amongst 70 acres of rolling hills, wildflower meadows, orchards, and streams, the property's charming 17th-century oak-framed barn has been lovingly restored. Take in the beautiful backdrop of the mountains, play lawn games in the meadows, or sneak off to the secret waterfall for some beautiful couple’s portraits. Then, as the sun goes down, toast marshmallows around the firepits and finish the day on a memorably charming note.

Facilities and Capacity

There are plenty of beautiful spots to choose from for hosting your ceremony at Lower House Farm, with stunning local churches or a ceremony at the farm. This includes the magnificent and ever popular oak tree sat on the edge of the Olchon Brook. If an outdoor ceremony isn't an option, there is also a wonderful covered yard space.

The oak-framed barn is an impressive space at the heart of the farm. It can seat up to 100 people for your wedding feast on long wooden tables and sheepskin-adorned benches. Come evening, there is the capacity for up to 140 guests to dance the night away. Light up the firepits and transform the barn into a dance floor, slip on your dancing shoes and make the evening one to remember.

Services Offered

One of the in-house wedding coordinators at Lower House Farm will work closely with you to help you make your dream a reality. They start the process with a venue tour and initial planning meeting to get to know your ideas. The farm's exclusive-use policy offers peace and privacy for your special day.

Cuisine

Catering for events held here is taken care of inhouse by Wild by Nature. Seasonal produce and sustainability are at the heart of everything they do, with simple dishes that let the food's freshness take centre stage. On their menus, you’ll find grass-fed beef and hogget along with free-range pork and home cured charcuterie, prepared right on the farm. Not forgetting the sourdough pizzas for the evening- delicious.

The most beautiful place to get married

We booked Lower House Farm without even seeing it in person - we just new from a Zoom call that it was the place for us, especially as the photos made me cry! I am SO glad we did!

We are still on cloud nine after our wedding at Lower House Farm last week. It was the most beautiful location to get married, with incredibly delicious food, amazing staff and a wonderful place to stay for the weekend. We were lucky enough that the sun shone all day and we got to marry under the old oak tree - it was beautiful and intimate despite being in the big open field.

We felt fully supported every step of the way by Natalie, who also helped coordinate on the day which was especially important to us as we did most of it ourselves. The rest of the staff on the day were incredible - attentive, friendly and always on hand when we needed them. The bar staff were smiley ALL day, the waiters remained happy even with two coats and hats on when the evening turned cold, and the team the next morning had already packed up our things so we could take them away seamlessly.

It was important to us that we got married somewhere with space outside, locally sourced food and a relaxed atmosphere and Lower House Farm was just that. We cannot recommend it enough.

Our guests had the most wonderful day and all agreed it was well worth travelling for - some as far as Dublin, Perth and Vancouver! They loved being served drinks from the old train carriage and playing games on the lawn, they all thought the food was amazing and the setting beautiful, and everyone had a great time putting their wellies on and walking down to the waterfall!

If we could do it all over again this week, we would in a heartbeat!

Thank you - Lauren & Rob

Amazing venue, setting and team!

We had the most beautiful wedding day at Lower House Farm and couldn't have asked for a more supportive or organised venue! Lower House Farm itself is an incredible setting - we had our ceremony under the oak tree which was beautiful and our meal in the barn, photos in the orchard and down by their waterfall. It really is such a special venue, surrounded by countryside and we fell in love with it as soon as we visited.

Amie was incredibly helpful and organised in the lead up to the day, arranging calls to talk things through and answer any questions, making the whole thing so smooth and stress free. We felt there was enough flexibility to make the venue our own and unique, and the team gave us plenty advice on how to make some of ideas for the day come to life, including a walking brass band and hanging decorations in the outside barn.

On the day the team went above and beyond to make sure everyone was catered for. The food was incredible and we've had so many of our guests comment on how friendly the staff were, and how delicious the meal and canapes were, which was a really important element for us. The attention to detail was amazing - we had quite a few guests with specific dietary requirements but they were given separate canapes and meals which meant we didn't have to worry.

We were lucky to also be able to stay at Old Great Marlborough across the weekend too with our nearest and dearest, which made the weekend even more special and extended the celebrations.

We left really feeling like Amie and the team were friends and part of our wedding party, and we couldn't recommend this venue highly enough!

Look no further!

The team at Lower House Farm made planning our wedding incredibly easy and stress-free. Unlike other venues where there are a lot of hidden costs, these guys were upfront and everything was included in the initial quote. We struggled to find somewhere suitable to house both of our families under one roof, but luckily their holiday rental (Old Great Marlborough) was available and completely exceeded our expectations. Every room had a gorgeous ensuite and the house boasts a massive kitchen and comfortable living area - we had both bridal and grooms parties getting ready in opposite ends of the house, which worked a treat. The venue is picturesque, tucked away in the Olchon Valley, surrounded by nature and stunning views of the countryside. I could not recommend these guys more!

The most perfect day

We knew Lower House Farm was the place we wanted to get married the first moment we saw it – it’s just the most breath-taking venue you could ever imagine. It was wonderful to have the ceremony under the oak tree and just joyous hearing our guests say what an extraordinary place it was.

The food is beyond delicious too – really exciting flavours, served with generosity and style. We might be biased, but we think it was the best food of any wedding we’ve ever been to.

Emily and Nicole were fantastically proactive from start to finish. We really felt they were looking out for us and had every little detail covered, including great recommendations for suppliers. It felt so reassuring to know we were in such safe hands. Everyone commented on how friendly and lovely the serving and bar staff were too.

Our day was everything we wanted and so much more – and that wouldn’t have happened without Lower House Farm and everyone there.

Amazing venue

Emily and the team at Lower House Farm were great - not only in talking us through various options for setting up and letting us put our own stamp on things, but their flexibility and understanding during the pandemic has been great. We moved our original wedding date with no problems and the day is something that we will cherish forever.

The teams attention to detail cannot be faulted and our guests are still raving about the food, especially those with various dietary requirements whose food was just as delicious as the rest of the guests!

We would absolutely recommend Lower House Farm to anyone who is looking for a relaxed, countryside, rustic wedding venue.

Fantastic Wedding Venue in the Black Mountains

Lower House Farm is a beautiful and authentic wedding venue nestled in amongst the statuesque Black Mountains on the border of England and Wales. The venue is a family-owned working farm of 70 acres including meadows, hills, wood lined streams, orchards and even its own waterfall.

Their events manager Emily is simply brilliant with a real eye for detail (not easy during a pandemic!) and the first-class food is all cooked on their lovingly handmade outdoor wood oven.

Although we got married in their field under a 600-year-old oak tree, there is a small historic chapel nearby and guests who chose to camp are well provided for on site.

We couldn’t recommend highly enough.

The perfect venue!

Words cannot describe how wonderful Lower House Farm is as a wedding venue. It is simply perfect!

We got married here in early November 2021 with a ceremony in the yard area and a fantastic meal inside the barn. Emily is a fantastic wedding coordinator and made sure the day went smoothly. From our initial contact to the day and beyond she has been there answering questions and helping us to plan our perfect day, nothing was ever too much trouble!

The food was fantastic, head chef Esther and her team created an incredible meal not to forget the delicious canapés to begin and pizzas in the evening. They catered for complex dietary requirements and the food was enjoyed by all. The vegetarian option was a particular hit amongst our guests!

The drinks were fantastic too with a delicious hot honey and gin drink that warmed everyone up, local wines and bubbles. A massive thanks to the bar team who were so incredibly friendly.

Whilst we haven’t seen our official photos yet, we know they will be perfect with photos on the swing by the huge oak tree, to the waterfall area to evening photos under the twinkling lights!

We used lots of the recommended suppliers who were all fantastic too. Thank you Lower house farm for our perfect wedding day. We wouldn’t change a thing and would recommend you to anyone considering getting married in the area. We cannot thank you enough.

An unforgettable day at an incredible venue

Amie and the Wild by Nature team made our Civil Partnership celebrations better than we could have imagined. The venue at Lower House Farm is absolutely stunning. Beautiful grounds and barns set in a lovely part of Herefordshire, with the Black Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop to the festivities. The team were so helpful from the very start, helping us think through how we wanted our day to go - and as they are all so friendly it was a really pleasurable experience. A big part of why we chose the venue was the food - Wild By Nature is set on a regenerative farm, and most of the food is grown or reared on site, and cooked over fire on their outdoor kitchen. So many of our guests said it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. We couldn't have been happier with how the day went - and a lot of that is down to the great work of the staff at Lower House Farm. We recommend them without hesitation.

October wedding

My Husband and I were married at Lower House Farm in October 2023 and couldn't recommend them enough. Everyone we liaised with was so friendly and our wedding coordinator Natalie was so lovely, organised and very patient!!
The venue is stunning, food and drink delicious and everyone involved so laid back and a pleasure to work with. They team are very genuine people and made it a very personal experience for us- unlike other venues we viewed which just seemed like they churned out weddings.

We would also recommend their pub the Bulls Head in Craswall- we both had group events there in the lead up and food is delicious with great service.

We had so many positive comments from our guests and truly had the best time. Thanks to everyone at Wild by nature & Lower House Farm for your help in making it such a great day and enjoyable lead up!!

A really supportive team in a truly unique venue

We booked our wedding at Lower House Farm two years in advance (during the pandemic) and throughout the whole lead up to our big day, the Wild By Nature team remained attentive, accommodating, thoughtful and supportive in every way you could ask for! Their venue absolutely sang in the Autumn sunshine and we were so thrilled to be able to have our ceremony under their stunning oak tree. Having the wedding breakfast in the restored barn on their long feasting tables gave it exactly the convivial, generous feeling we were going for. We really appreciated the team going the extra mile and securing an extra license to be able to have our ceilidh band play in their covered courtyard. The team’s help with set up and take down made a huge difference to our experience. Last but by no means least, the food was exceptional! From the canapés to the drinks, the incredible slow roast hogget to the fantastic curries, our guests were so impressed by the quality (and quantity) of food and drink on offer. If you are looking for a relaxed venue that will make you fall in love with the outdoors all over again and food that will keep you and your guests talking for months, this is the venue for you.

Farm to fork

This was the only venue that we looked at and we knew straight away that it was for us: nestled down in the picturesque Olchon valley, with a beautiful barn and an ancient oak tree and with all of the exquisite food grown or farmed onsite or sourced locally. Natalie and her team couldn’t have been more accommodating and regular meetings with Natalie kept plans on track. We had the most amazing day and cannot recommend the venue and the team enough.
