About

Situated in the heart of Islington, East Central London, Museum of the Order of St John is a centuries-old wedding venue steeped in history. With a lineage that extends back to the 11th century, this grand venue invites to-be-weds to make their own mark. Surrounded by stunning portraits, paintings, and historic artefacts, couples can add a layer of enchantment to their magical day.

Facilities and Capacity

Nestled away in East Central London, Museum of the Order of St John allows couples to embrace the quiet or immerse themselves in the capital's vibrant centre. This evocative haven features a variety of function rooms, each with its own distinguishing personality. Designed by John Oldrid Scott, this fascinating building was first built in 1504 and still retains much of its original grandeur. Today, antique furnishings and stained glass intermingle effortlessly with sleek, modern stylings. Within this unusual contemporary space, a choice of event setting immerges, with many fully licensed for ceremonies. The Council Chamber is the venue's oldest room and offers a decidedly intimate space for smaller weddings. Low lighting and warm wooden panelling bestow the room with an inviting atmosphere, ideal for meaningful unions. Elsewhere, The Chapter Hall unfolds in a dignified splendour of medieval embellishments and a provocative chandelier under which up to 200 guests can dine and mingle. The nearby Cloister Garden is the venue's dedicated outdoor space adorned in lilies, roses, and sweet-scented lavender. Under the shade of a 200-year-old olive tree, to-be-weds can toast their nuptials with a champagne reception after their ceremony in St John's Gate. Further event spaces include the Prior's Dining Room, The Church, The Crypt, and the light-filled Galleries.

Services Offered

Boasting an eclectic mix of venue spaces for up to 250, Museum of the Order of St John provides detailed brochures on each function room. Once couples have made their booking, a member of the events team will be available to assist with every endeavour in the run-up to the wedding. On the day, they will stay on-site from set up to tear down, ensuring every inch of the event runs smoothly. As a dry hire venue, couples are invited to enlist their ideal caterer from a choice of accredited suppliers the team are happy to recommend. When it comes to the decor, the museum strives to be as flexible as possible, allowing couples to transform the chosen space to fit their desired theme.

Beautiful venue and exceptional service

We were married in the Chapter Hall at the Museum in Sept 2022, with a reception to follow in the historic cloister gardens. The venue was stunning and needed no decoration from us to be breathtaking; Claudia and the whole team were fantastic in the lead-up to the event and on the day did an amazing job of keeping us calm and making sure we were in the right place at the right time. Finally, the cloister garden was such a special and intimate space to share our first drink with family and friends.
