Beautiful venue, poor experience
Beautiful venue but a whole host of wedding problems.
We got married at Broadoaks in November and had problems almost from the time of booking. When we reached out to the venue to come to a resolution we were offered a free of charge one night stay which when compared to the list of problems we experienced does not match up. When we highlighted that we had not received multiple things that were in the contract we were told that this wasn't their problem as the contract was with the previous owners and not themselves, although the contract states 'Broadoaks' and no specific owners.
Please see below for the list of problems.
- When we were sent the contract the price was £750 more than what was agreed, Broadoaks stated this was an 'error' and corrected it.
- After booking and confirming everything Broakoaks stated that the times they had advised for the ceremony and the evening were not compatible.
- We sought clarification from Broadoaks that we would have exclusive use and allow for set up time, this didn't happen and subsequently we struggled to set up due to stragglers from the day before.
- We were advised that there was on site parking for 100 cars, this isn't true and includes local lanes.
- 9 months before the wedding we received an email stating that the price of food packages would be increasing, despite us having in writing that this wouldn't be happening.
- there was often delays in confirming that deposits have been received.
- When we added the garden suites onto the booking, once again the price was incorrect on the contract.
- 2 days before the wedding we received several phone calls from the venue confirming things that we had submitted on paperwork weeks prior that we had been rushed to submit because of the coordinator going on holiday.
* Day of wedding Problems *
- When the groom arrived the member of staff was rude to the groom when he queried why there was still the wedding party from the previous day on site.
- The retreat had been booked for the bride to get ready, it was not ready and the Bride had to wait on the drive for 30 minutes with guests arriving, despite the plan for getting the key being discussed at length in the planning meetings. The staff never brought the key down.
- The floors of the retreat were covered in bleach water which discoloured both the bride's dress and the wedding shoes.
- The groom's getting ready room was also not ready for 1300 despite being one of the 'guaranteed' rooms.
- Halfway through the day the wedding coordinator changed to someone the bride and groom had never met, this caused multiple problems, including not enough cake being served. Several Guests questioned if this was the first wedding this coordinator had ever done.
- Staff were stretched over multiple areas, leaving the guests having to ring a bell to summon bar staff and waiting for a while to check in.
- When the staff cleared up the Brides veil got stuffed into a box with the cake knife and dirty cake decor, damaging it and staining it.
- One of our guests had severe hazelnut allergy, this was highlighted in EVERY planning meeting we were assured that there would be no hazelnuts on site. There was Nutella served at breakfast. This caused the bride and the groom having to rush to collect it before anyone opened it.
- the personalised news of the day and order of the day was not provided at all despite being in the contract.
- The roof of the orangery was leaking on guests throughout the ceremony, meal and evening.
- The vegetarian food served was poor.Beautiful venue but a whole host of wedding problems.

Beautiful venue
We absolutely fell in love with Broadoaks the moment we saw it! The staff have all been wonderful! I don’t have a bad word to say about any of them! We had 2 day exclusive hire, the food on both days was amazing! Issie was an amazing wedding coordinator! I didn’t once feel stressed or anxious about the day! Would highly recommend Broadoaks for the venue, staff and the value for money!We absolutely fell in love with Broadoaks the moment we saw it! The staff have all been wonderful! The best of the best
I cannot rate broadoaks highly enough! Everything was perfect for our 3 night stay and 2 day wedding event. Brilliant co ordination from Mel and the staff are incredibly hard workers. The venue was just perfect and all the guests loved their individually decorated rooms! The spa baths are great. The food was brilliant and the breakfasts are wonderful. It really was the best day of our lives at Broadoaks- everything was just perfect and the house and grounds are just stunning!! Thank you all so much.I cannot rate broadoaks highly enough! Everything was perfect for our 3 night stay and 2 day wedding event. Brilliant co ordination from Mel and the staff are incredibly hard workers. The venue was just perfect and all the guests loved their individually decorated rooms! The spa baths are great. The food was brilliant and the breakfasts are wonderful. Beautiful wedding venue that welcomes dogs
We had an intimate civil ceremony at Broadoaks County House Hotel in December 2022, and everything was spot on. We couldn’t of asked for more from our wonderful wedding planner Viki, she was on hand throughout the day, as well as the weeks running up to the wedding day.
One of the main reasons for choosing Broadoaks is their acceptance of dogs.. we have two Golden Retrievers and it was so important to us to have them with us throughout the day, and they were made so welcome by all the staff 💕

Our dream wedding 5th December 2021
The best thing I did when I was looking for a venue was seeing Broadoaks on Facebook. Joanna and Mel did a fabulous job of organising our wedding. The venue is just amazing. The great thing about the venue is that you have it all to yourselves. Bedrooms are stunning and the food is outstanding. We cant recommend this venue enough. The Most Magical Day of our lives. "After all this time? Always"
Well where do we begin... There is no words to describe how incredible our experience has been with Broadoaks Country House, would give it 1000 stars if we could. From the very beginning of our journey from driving up the amazing driveway to the 2 days we got to spend there celebrating our love and coming together with our closest family and friends and of course our beloved dogs. We couldn't have wished for anything better.
I think we had contact with each and every one of the events team whilst on our journey with them and not a bad word to say about any of them. A BIG shout out to Mel though especially, who was our actual wedding coordinator of our special day...You were just amazing! And we couldn't have asked for anyone better you were very professional but personable at the same time and it really felt like she was a part of our wedding rather than just that person behind the scenes so thank you from the bottom of our hearts all the support and chats we will be forever grateful. Another Thank you to all the rest of the staff at the hotel aswell you all were just absalute diamonds of humans. We were made to feel like Lady and Man of the manor and nothing was no trouble at all.
Also the venue itself and the saroundings couldn't have been better with plenty of space for all our guests to spread out and mingle throughout our 2 day exclusive stay. On top of this all our guests loved their stay at the hotel and the rooms they all fell in love with instantly. Everyone has been coming back to us saying how homely and welcoming and that it really didn't feel like a hotel more like a home sweet home environment.
If we could go back to that day and get married all over again, we genuinely wouldn't changed a single thing ( not even the weather)
We already can not wait to come back and visit many times in the future also to stay. You are in our eyes the best hotel in the whole of Windermere.
Broadoaks we will be forever very fond of you.

Wedding 02.09.21
We came across broadoaks on a hitched advert on Facebook nearly 18 months ago, as soon as I seen the pictures I instantly sent the link to my partner who then booked us to go and look around and meet a member of the events team, we met with Mel who was absolutely amazing nothing was to much trouble she happily went through all dates that suited us and our family. Once we settled on a date everything was perfect communication from Mel was always so quick and clear what we needed to do. Then along came Covid which meant our original wedding date couldn't be accommodated this wasn't an issue as Mel sorted everything for us and a new date was booked. Our wedding was on 02.09
21 we booked Broadoaks exclusively for 2 days I can honestly say this was the best decision ever. The day before was perfect all our family and friends sat outside in the sunshine catching up after a long time apart then the actual wedding day came again Mel was a star she handled everything even keeping me calm during numerous tears getting dressed 😊 the day was perfect all our family and friends loved the venue and all said how fantastic the two days went. Also a huge thanks to Dan he's fantastic and so are all the staff they made us feel at home. Can't wait to come back on the 16th October. Thank you for a perfect wedding. Ours is the only wedding in the world!
There are no words to explain quite how impressed we have been with our experience with Broadoaks. From our very first contact email, to our last follow up phone call, our wedding coordinator Mel was absolutely amazing. She helped us realise our dream event, ensured that every step of the way we felt confident that everything would be perfect and just the way we wanted it. Mel really did make our event personal to the extent that we felt that ours was the only wedding happening... ever! Mel and my partner got on so well it was a pleasure to have her organise our event.
The hotel grounds are perfect for a small to medium event. We had 21 guests and even though we did not go for exclusive hire we had exclusive use of the orangery and its outside area which were perfect for our group. The gardens are immaculately kept, the wedding lawn is private and secluded from any hotel guests. The food is very well presented, tasty and the kitchen staff went out of their way to cater for some special requests.
The hotel rooms are amazing, every single room is different, perfectly decorated and all have unique features. The 'Retreat' is out of this world, its huge, stylish and with its twin inside/outside bath a perfect end to a romantic wedding day.
The wedding packages offered flexibility and very good value. We were able to have the wedding of our dreams on a budget we could afford which allowed us to add extra touches we'd otherwise have missed out on.
We cannot recommend Broadoaks highly enough its very rare that I feel the need to write a review but on this occasion I feel that the venue and staff (especially Mel) far exceeded our expectations and made our wedding day perfect. We will be returning to stay for our anniversary and any other occasion we can get away with.

Fantastic winter weekend wedding venue for our day
Fantastic wedding at Broadoaks on Saturday 18th January 2020. We had the venue booked for the whole weekend.Mel and Amber were really helpful with the wedding preparations ensuring all our needs were met.
The night before was great and food delicious. The day itself went like clockwork Mel kept things calm and organised. The ceremony room looked gorgeous as did the orangery where we had our wedding breakfast.
All our guests thoroughly enjoyed their stay all the rooms being different and all beautifully decorated was really quirky which we loved too.
No wonder you have won awards Broadoaks, thank you for helping us make some fantastic memories which we will treasure. Thanks to all staff who were all helpful, friendly and always smiling.
