The worst possible wedding! AVOID!

We chose Stanley House as our wedding venue in June 2024 due to its charm, supposed ratings and the lovely grounds surrounding the buildings - what a mistake!

The red flags began a few months after we booked. The venue has a constant turnover of staff, to the point we had 4 different wedding co-ordinators over a 12 month period which definitely impacted some of the following issues. Early on we were asked for all the email addresses for our guests staying for them to send over booking links for the rooms. One month before our wedding, we still had our guests trying to contact the venue to book rooms and being faced with answering machines and nobody...

We chose Stanley House as our wedding venue in June 2024 due to its charm, supposed ratings and the lovely grounds surrounding the buildings - what a mistake!

The red flags began a few months after we booked. The venue has a constant turnover of staff, to the point we had 4 different wedding co-ordinators over a 12 month period which definitely impacted some of the following issues. Early on we were asked for all the email addresses for our guests staying for them to send over booking links for the rooms. One month before our wedding, we still had our guests trying to contact the venue to book rooms and being faced with answering machines and nobody picking up the phone or replying. The wedding co-ordinators were useless and I had to co-ordinate all the rooms myself to pay. This was already unnecessary stress before my wedding.

Then comes the day itself, no drinks provided to the room in the morning, having to ring down for breakfast 5 times, stuff nobody should be doing first thing on their wedding day - it got worse from there. Pre-ceremony we had paid for additional drinks for our guests upon arrival. Stanley House poured and left the drinks out over two hours before our guests arrived, leaving them warm and in the corner of the room where nobody could find them. The ceremony went as planned despite being delayed due to poor co-ordination, but the real issues started at our wedding breakfast. The food was completely different to what had been agreed on the tasting day, and the wine was the cheapest they could find. When asked where the wine we had chosen was, we were told by the young staff that “we were told to use up what we had left”, to which we complained and had to remove all wine from the tables.

They then lost my wedding favours and other decorations, causing unnecessary stress; and also overcharged my guests at the bar due to their young and severely under-experienced staff. In the evening, they had no meals prepared for my vegetarian and vegan guests, and were unable to confirm allergens for my guests with allergies. Guests who went to their rooms were given keys to other people’s rooms and ended up napping in the wrong beds! By the time we got to cutting our cake, we were completely fed up. The knife broke during our cake cutting and then they proceeded to get our first dance wrong. At this point I was in tears and our day had been ruined.

The reason i’m posting this now, 10 months later, is because it has taken up to now for us to get anywhere with our complaint. The venue has been absolutely appalling and has shown no remorse for how we were treated, and only due to intense persistence, was I able to get us a less than 10% refund. This business is a money making one, they do not care about your feelings or how much one day can mean to you, they are merely there to make as much as they can from you as a number. We were given the opportunity for redemption at the recent Mamma Mia brunch and as you can see from the other reviews across the internet, that was just as shambolic. I would avoid this establishment as a wedding venue and event venue at all costs and look elsewhere for your perfect day.

Stanley House- The dream Wedding Venue

We viewed quite a lot of wedding venues but as soon as we drove into Stanley House Hotel and Spa we knew it was the one!
The hotel, the grounds and the staff were exceptional. The ceremony room was magical topped off with the beautiful staircase leading you to the room.
The glass marquee was everything we were looking for and more for our wedding breakfast.
From day one of meeting Elle she went above and beyond, calmed all our nerves and we honestly couldn’t have done it without her. Every single detail was covered from big to small and nothing was too much. Elle was the perfect wedding co-ordinator and we can’t thank her enough for...

We also owe a huge thank you to Victoria who over saw our wedding day. Elle and Victoria really ensured that everything ran smoothly and perfectly!
Stanley House will forever hold a special place in our hearts and we would love for other couples to have the same experience as us! ❤️

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish!

We booked our wedding here at Stanley House, and Megan Simpson has been guiding us through the whole process. She has been on hand to answer my many questions, reassuring us both and encouraging us whenever we needed help.
We married on 25th May 2024, the whole day was amazing from start to finish. The venue was beautiful, all the staff professional and friendly at every level.
All our guests have commented on the beautiful atmosphere and the hospitality Shien by staff at Stanley House

Absolutely amazing from start to finish

Day was absolutely amazing! Staff were so attentive. Megan was amazing throughout the planning and was lovely to see a familiar face on the day. Gareth on the day was outstanding - nothing too much of an issue for him. Such a perfect day, amazing food, decor, everything

Best wedding venue in the North West

We had the wedding reception of our dreams at Stanley House Hotel at Easter. The day was exactly how we had imagined thanks to the dedicated wedding team. All the stress was taken away from myself and it was organised yet relaxed throughout the whole planning process and the day it’s self. Natalie who we booked the wedding with was amazing, Maddison our wedding planner was always at hand and super excited for us and the hosts Josh and Joe were absolutely brilliant and so attentive. We felt like a king and queen for the day and all our guests enjoyed the amazing food, gorgeous venue and stunning views. The breakfast and spa the following day just finished it...

We're biased but... best wedding ever.

It'll be the stunning venue that will catch your eye - beautifully landscaped grounds, stunning views, incredible classic architecture with an appealing modern internal twist... But it is the team that make Stanley House.

Supportive in the build-up, they really pulled it out of the bag on the day - they were absolutely everywhere, in total control without ourselves or our guests noticing they were there. Subtle, professional service and never missed a trick

Having returned to the venue since, the team that looked after us have made us feel like lifelong friends. Without doubt, we will be back on every wedding anniversary!

Amazing venue and incredible staff - Wedding April 2022

We booked Stanley house for our wedding back in 2018 and we instantly loved the whole feel of the venue and we knew from that moment on it was a special place and would hold a lot of memories for us..

We were supposed to get married in May 2020, but lockdown had other ideas and so we eventually got our day on the 16th April 2022, and it was well and truly worth the wait.
Natalie, well Natalie our wedding coordinator has become my new best friend, and is the nicest person you’ll ever meet. Honestly this lady has been incredible from the moment we met. She went above and beyond for us in all the situations we were faced with and made the whole experience an unforgettable one. A moment I will never forget was on our wedding day she was the first person to greet us as we got out of the car, to later on be told that she was actually supposed to be off on annual leave as her Dad was over to visit from abroad, this shows how much of a lovely person she is, and how committed and dedicated she is to her job, and this will always mean a lot to us Natalie. There are too many instances I could mention where Natalie went above and beyond, but please know we will always be thankful. Through the lockdowns we stayed in touch via emails and we kept each other’s spirits up when things weren’t exactly great, so I’ll always be grateful for that. Natalie is an absolute credit to Stanley house and I can’t speak any more highly of her. Whenever I phoned her/emailed her I instantly felt at ease and I can hand on heart say I never ever felt stressed out, I always knew everything was in hand, and that’s the kind of wedding coordinator everyone needs. So all that’s left to say is thank you.
Joe, well Joe.. What can we say other than fantastic. He was absolutely brilliant, we had plenty of laughs and I knew at our meeting a couple of days before the wedding we were going to have a blast on the day with him, you really made our day Joe! He was our go to person on our day and he excelled in everything. We had guests coming up to us asking for his name as they said they wanted to go and personally thank him for all that he did for us. Anything we wanted doing he was there to just sort it, so thank you Joe for all of your efforts, you really are a credit to the team.

The food was incredible, faultless and we will certainly be back to sample more of the food! The cheesecake on our wedding day was unreal. The cleanliness of the whole hotel is second to none, the rooms were spotless and we had the most amazing stay as did all of our guests.
So all in all a big thank you to all of the chefs, the bar staff, the reception staff, the cleaners and all the people behind the scenes who made our day what it was, there are too many people to thank individually but please know we are very grateful for what you did.
It was simply fantastic and we couldn’t have dreamt of a better place to get married.
We will be back for sure and I for sure have already told Natalie that I will be staying in touch with my emails!!
Anyone who is thinking about booking a wedding with them you honestly won’t regret it.

Myself and my husband fell in love with Stanley house upon our initial visit and we instantly knew that this was our chosen wedding venue. It is a lovely building with beautiful features and surroundings. The staff are very friendly, professional and cannot do enough to help to ensure everything is perfect. Our day was planned to perfection with the help of Maddison and ran smoothly from start to finish with the help of Joe and the rest of his team. The bedrooms were all immaculate and beautifully presented. There is a good variety of food which is suitable for various dietary requirements and tastes amazing.

Simply the best!

We have recently got married here and it was honestly the best day of our lives. Everything from start to finish was absolutely incredible, nothing was ever too much for the staff or the venue. I first met my wedding co-ordinator Maddison in 2018 and I knew straight away, the venue was right for us. Maddisons caring and welcoming nature made it feel like we were genuinely cared about and it started our wedding planning process very well. She kept me up to date with everything every step of the way including on our wedding day.
I felt like an extremely calm bride on my wedding day and this was down to feeling completely comfortable with how the day was going to run in their hands.
Stanley House will always be an extremely special place to us, it's just simply spectacular, the grounds, the manor house, the accommodation, the spa...everything.
I would definitely recommend this venue, I'm already looking forward to going back.
