Didn’t even get our names right…
We got married in July. It was a beautiful day, the ceremony was complete, pictures were done and we were about to have the big moment of being introduced for the first time as Mr and Mrs Severn. It’s a big moment.
And out of nowhere, we get Mr and Mrs Stevens (and no, it’s not even remotely close). Instead of our guests remembering the good things about the day, we now get jokes about the wrong name. It’s THE thing people remember.
That wasn’t the only mistake. They also served the wrong drinks, delayed the ceremony by 10 minutes as they didn't tell the photographer/my dad where to go, and tried to shut the bar 30 minutes early, which my husband had to persuade the staff to reopen.
We raised these issues onto the Sitwell Arms team and tried to settle this internally. They took 6 weeks to reply and sent back a lacking response and excuse that most of the mistakes were because they were confirmed by email and not sent over to the right person.
Honestly - this excuse and lack of communication is inexcusable.
It’s a lovely venue, but if you're after attention to detail for your wedding, you should try somewhere else.

Absolutely Appalling
Review of wedding at Sitwell Arms Hotel May 2024. Firstly we would like to praise the wedding decorators and the DJ in particular who were both brilliant.
Unfortunately I would absolutely not recommend this venue!
Our package stated that the bride could use the bridal suite to get ready, at my alloted time we asked for the keys to the bridal suite to be told that the keys were already out. After questioning we were told that the 4 poster room we were already in was the bridal suite. I could not get ready here as my partner and child were getting ready in there so I ended up getting dressed in my bridesmaids standard room. I do not believe this was the bridal suite as photos on the website and social media show bridesl getting ready in a very different room.
As I walked into my ceremony I noticed that my memorial candle (electric) for my daughter was not lit, this was something that we had discussed at length. I then had to switch it on after the ceremony. My father was told to stand on the wrong side of me so when we got to the end of the isle he had to step over my dress. We had also asked for rows of 2 for the ceremony (it was a small intimate wedding) they were set as 3 so myself and my father and then myself and my husband could not walk side by side down the isle.
The wrong music was played as we exited the ceremony.
After the ceremony I asked about the sweet cart that we had replaced the canapes with and was told that they were not being put out yet as everyone would eat them and not eat their dinner. This meant that the guests went from 2pm on arrival to 5pm with nothing to eat.
Unfortunately many of the problems we encountered began at the wedding dinner. Myself and my husband believed that the menu was a buffet style and guests would be able to go and get their own food as discussed in meetings. We were not looking for a plated up meal which is what we got, with some people not getting all of the elements of the meal on their plate.
After the meal I asked for desserts which were not ready, and was told that there wasn't any on their file. I then had to get my emails up during my wedding dinner to prove this. Desserts were sorted however they were not what was arranged and there was only 10 of each flavour so not everyone got what they wanted. There was also a child who did not get a meal and was only able to have an adult meal as one of our guests could not make it. My bridesmaid dealt with most of this so that I didn't have to. My bridesmaid took it upon herself to try to sort who wanted which dessert as we were getting closer to the evening guests arriving and didn’t still want to be eating and I was aware that the tables needed moving in preparation for the evening guests. I was shocked at the attitude of staff towards my bridesmaid, she was trying to help and the staff member loudly said “your counting is rubbish” in front of all of the guests. She was also heard by multiple guests saying to other staff “who does he think she is, does she think this is her wedding.” This is absolutely outrageous and not acceptable. As I sat eating my food I could hear on both tables guests discussing the attitude of the staff.
Unfortunately this is not the only time that the staff were an issue, the chef that came in and out of the wedding to bring the food looked for lack of a better term, utterly miserable, this was brought up by a number of my guests, a smile goes a long way. Whilst setting up for the evening I asked for chairs for the games table and was told that it was blank on the plan for games and I said that people may want to sit to play the games so 4 or 5 chairs would be great. I then heard the staff member once again speaking to her colleague about me asking for chairs when the plan was blank. She was also heard complaining about a child at the wedding saying he’s "running around" again.
I have since spoke to many of my guests and it is very upsetting that their lasting impression of our wedding day is the way they were treated by the staff, not just the wedding team but we also received comments about the reception desk staff being rude and sending our guests to the wrong wedding.
The hotel were emailed regarding this and I was told it would take 28 days to look into and get back to me. I contacted them again after 42 days for an update. All wrongdoing was blamed on a previous member of staff who "didn't pass information on". We were told about this member of staff on the day and staff were explaining many other events that had been affected by this. However if they knew there were problems arising from bookings made by a previous employee they should have been checked thoroughly with new staff.
The issues with previous wedding coordinators does not excuse the rudeness of the staff throughout the day. I am appalled by their behaviour.
The hotel offered a free stay and dinner however it is not something that we will accept as we do not want to stay there again. Absolutely Magical!!
We got married at The Sitwell Arms on 18/3/23 the whole experience was absolutely magical from start to finish, the day was more than we could have ever hoped for. The venue is beautiful, with a choice of modern, different size venue rooms to suit everyone's needs and budget, and the grounds and lake are absolutely gorgeous for photos. Sharon and the events team, but especially Sharon (absolute legend, this amazing lady) were incredible throughout and literally nothing was too much trouble, also throwing a massive shout out to John (night porter)and Beth & Beverley (bar & waiting) who were all phenomenal and really went out of their way to make our whole day just wonderful, they are a credit to this venue and our day just wouldn't have been the same if it wasn't for them. I simply can't sing this venue's praises enough, everyone at our wedding commented on the amazing food and service, this place is incredible for the money, cannot believe we only paid what we did and we honestly couldn't recommend it enoughWe got married at The Sitwell Arms on 18/3/23 the whole experience was absolutely magical from start to finish, the day was more than we could have ever hoped for. Winter wedding package 2022
We got married here on the 26.11.22 after booking 18 months in advance after a virtual then in person viewing with Jo the MD , she was so lovely and helpful and we instantly new it was the venue for us and ticked all our boxes! We visited several of the wedding fairs and this really helped to plan our perfect day and use recommend suppliers. I stayed over the night before with my bridesmaids in the Renishaw suite ( 2 bed apartment) and was greeted by Conor and a bottle of Prosecco which was a lovely touch, we then ate in the restaurant and had a lovely meal before going back to the room to chill out. I also booked the Renishaw suite for my family the night of the wedding meaning on the morning of my wedding we didn’t have to check out and had use of the Renishaw suite and honeymoon suite which was an amazing huge space to have (would recommend doing this to any future brides!) We used the salon for our hair and make up and could not rate becks and Courtney higher also amazing being able to walk to the salon in your robes and not have all the chaos and mess in your rooms) We then got married in the Sitwell suite and had the lake access for photos, we had the winter wedding package with the full upgrade and found this amazing value for money against local competition. We also used Samui the stylist and paid extra to upgrade to all pampas decor which looked unreal! Every guest raved about the day and night food, our day food was served at the table onto plates which was a lovely touch, we had vegetable soup, full beef dinner and apple and cinnamon crumble with vanilla custard and roast pork cobs with all the trimmings for evening, the venue was amazing and assisting with children’s meals and dietary requirements. Conor was our wedding coordinator and kept me so calm when I really needed it ! Just before walking into the ceremony room Jo had popped down to see me in which was a lovely touch, All the staff where so lovely on the day and really felt part of our wedding constantly smiling, crying with the speeches and checking if we needed anything. I really can not rate the team high enough I feel like our wedding was everything I dreamed of, so a massive thank you to the team at the Sitwell, management, coordinators, servers, bar staff, kitchen and house keeping (who handled our request to put treat boxes in all our guests rooms) ! Outstanding one in a million wedding venue
We married at the Sitwell arms in 2013. They made us feel so special and they still do as we are returning customers. They always go that extra mile. Excellent Venue
We had our wedding here 14 years ago. From the moment we decided to have our wedding here up to the actual day was dealt with by professional and considerate staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The grounds are excellent for your wedding photos.

Our Covid Wedding
Due to Covid, we had to change our wedding date 3 times. The staff were very knowledgeable and reassured us each time. Our wedding organiser was professional and made sure everything ran to time without making us feel rushed. Before the wedding we met to discuss how we wanted our day to go and any special needs/requests. These were all met with positivety and a can do attitude. Nothing was too much. The hotel catered for our every need and coordinated everything brilliantly.
On the wedding day, the food was delicious and plentiful, providing good vegetarian options. Many of the guests commented on how good it was. The venue provided easy access for a disabled guest and has some great areas for photos, both inside and out. The extra props, like the light up letters, were a bonus. Fantastic value for money, especially for a wedding.
I would highly recommend The Sitwell for a wedding venue. It will always have a special place in our hearts.Due to Covid, we had to change our wedding date 3 times.
