About

Romsey in Hampshire, is the Southern Gateway to the beautiful Test Valley and sits astride the river crossing at Middlebridge, a strategic staging point on the route west to the King's hunting grounds in the New Forest. For centuries it has been a traditional market town with its market charter originally held by the Abbess of Romsey Abbey. Today Romsey retains its street markets as well as a thriving town centre with shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes and historical sites.

Romsey's attractive Victorian Town Hall is licensed for Civil Weddings and Partnerships. We welcome bookings for ceremonies and receptions. The Court Room can accommodate up to 70 guests in a theatre style set up. The Council Chamber has a capacity of up to 170 guests, or up to 120 guests with enough space for a dance floor. We have an in-house bar and can provide you with a list of catering and entertainment services, all of whom are familiar with the location and are ready to suit your every wish.

Me again - post wedding report

Just wanted to add that our wedding day went beautifully. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or thoughtful. Little touches - for example they put out a dressing table for me to use before the ceremony, complete with tissues and even cotton wool. We had as much time as we wanted in the room the day before to set up, practice walking down the aisle etc. And we had some photos in a gorgeous courtyard out the back afterwards.

Parking wasn't an issue either, as it turned out. Everyone found spaces on the surrounding roads and carparks.

Sorry I'll stop gushing now...

Gorgeous ceremony venue - Visit this!

Romsey Town hall has 2 rooms which can be used for just the ceremony, or you can get caterers in and have the reception there too. The Council Chamber in particular is just gorgeous - once I'd seen it, no hotel function room stood a chance. We are having our ceremony at Romsey Town Hall and the reception elsewhere.

I can't fully rate the service yet, since my wedding isn't til August, but all my experience with the Town Clerk's Office has been very positive so far.

Artificial flowers are included in the hire costs so there isn't much scope to add your own decorations, but the rooms are so lovely it would seem silly to go sticking flowers all over the place.

It is very reasonable to hire and apparently if you have your reception here, there is no corkage to pay. Only worries are about access - there is no parking, though it's right in the centre of Romsey so there are car parks around. Also there's no lift so someone will have to carry Granny's wheelchair up the stairs if you choose the larger (nicer) room!

Still these are all practical details. Ultimately we chose to have our ceremony at Romsey because we loved it, and everything else is being sorted out around that.
