About

Severndroog castle is a gothic-style tower, built in 1784 by Lady James. The castle was built as an expression of love to commemorate the achievements of Lady James’ late husband, Sir William James. With this romantic gesture as the foundation of the castle what better place to tie the knot. You don’t have to build a tower to celebrate your love but you can hire this romantic castle for your special day.

The castle is situated on the summit of Shooters Hill and is surrounded by an enchanted woodland which provides a perfect backdrop for ceremonies and photos. Severndroog is the perfect venue for intimate ceremonies in a unique setting.

Hire

We won’t confuse you with packages just hire the castle at the hourly rate and use it as you wish.

You can hire the entire building or just the upper floors and Viewing Platform. The Lady James Room is licensed for ceremonies and holds 26 seated or 36 standing guests. The Viewing Platform is licensed for ceremonies and holds 6 people, ideal for very intimate, small weddings, second weddings or renewing vows. From the viewing platform you can see panoramic views of London and you would get some amazing photographs and its a great experience for your guests to enjoy.

A smooth wedding day

The contact from the venue staff was sometimes slow, but they did warn you of this as the office is manned part time only.
On the day, they were very organised and ran everything like clockwork. Food was well presented and delicious (we had the x5 small plates). It was a bit more hassle some than you'd expect to organise vegetarian alternatives in 2019, but a solution was agreed.
My only complaint was that the aisle was not wide enough for two people so my father could not actually walk me down the aisle, instead he had to walk behind me. Not great when they are avoiding a train and disappointing as this should have been checked by staff beforehand.

The best venue for a small wedding

Booking, organising and coordinating with the Severndroog staff and volunteers was smooth and professional and so was the running of things on the day. The venue speaks for itself, a Gothic and classy folly at the top of Shooter's Hill and is perfect for small ceremonies. Our guests all commented on the wonderful venue and the standard of catering and although our guests couldn't use the viewing platform due to the wind warning in place that day (typical!) I think the surroundings kept them entertained anyway.

we hired Severndroog Castle as an exclusive hire for our wedding ceremony and reception. The whole experience was delightful and stress free from beginning to end. The staff, headed by Natalie and Melissa, were lovely, friendly and helpful. Terrace Catering headed by Chris gave superb food. Our guests loved the place, its a hidden gem, everyone was impressed by the venue and experience.

Completely perfect!

We had exclusive hire of Severndroog for a laid-back and intimate wedding and reception. We couldn’t have imagained a better day in such a stunning and unique location - thoughts that were echoed by our families and friends.

We just wanted to say the biggest thank you to Natalie and Melissa and Chris (catering) for all your support in the run up to our wedding and for making the day so easy. Meant that we enjoyed every single minute.

Perfect wedding day!

We recently had our wedding at Severndroog castle our experience was top notch from start to finish.
The wedding coordinator, Laura, was helpful from the moment we decided to look round the venue, she was always prompt with her replies with any queries we had.
The day itself was perfect. We had exclusive hire of the castle with the maximum guest count of 55. We had half our guests in the ceremony room and the other half watching the ceremony screened live in the other room of the castle- which the guests loved, especially due to the addition of popcorn in that room!
The team were so helpful on the day, they all worked so hard to make sure everything ran smoothly, even helping my now husband to fill popcorn boxes for our guests! Special thanks to Dave who worked hard screening the ceremony.
We highly recommend the beautiful castle for weddings, it is like something from a fairytale!
