Sheriff Hutton Castle is a truly unique historic wedding venue in York, North Yorkshire. Dating back to the 14th century, this was once a favourite residence of the monarchy, frequented by Richard III and Henry VIII. Now, the castle is available to host weddings, vow renewals, and other celebrations. Set just 25 minutes outside of York, this is a private and peaceful escape from everyday life.

Facilities and Capacity

The sounding hall, lovingly preserved within the remains of the castle, is licensed for civil ceremonies only (celebrant ceremonies welcome) of up to 56 guests. The stonework is laced with ivy and dappled with fairy lights, providing a romantic atmosphere. Couples walk down an aisle adorned with candles to say ‘I Do’.

The courtyard can be used for drinks and canapes from a caterer of the couple’s choice after the service with no corkage fee. The castle provides a stunning backdrop for photography. Guests can shower the couple with biodegradable confetti to wish them good luck in their newlywed life.
