Boasting spectacular views of the Black Mountains, this property offers a wonderful choice of spaces for nuptial celebrations and spectacular wedding photos. From the Georgian Manor House to the rustic barn and elegant gardens, couples and their guests are sure to be delighted with these spectacular surroundings and the privacy and exclusivity of this private venue with no traffic noise .
Facilities and Capacity
Tall John’s House offers a choice of truly remarkable backdrops for civil ceremonies, with both indoor and outdoor spaces available. The Barn boasts a soaring vaulted ceiling embellished with wooden beams, complimented beautifully with exposed brickwork and polished stone floors. For more intimate occasions, the Granary is perfect, which offers a vaulted ceiling and mezzanine balcony. Those who wish to exchange vows outdoors can enjoy the Gazebo space or anywhere in the stunning gardens with mountain views or in the beautiful walled garden. Couples who would prefer a religious service may visit the local church, set only 1.5 miles away. This historical building was rebuilt in 1851 on the grounds of an ancient Celtic church and can hold up to 100 guests. The Barn also offers a stunning setting for receptions, providing a blank canvas for couples to embellish to reflect their vision for the day. Your guests are sure to enjoy the open-air courtyard while the walled garden or the magnificent lawn in the grounds makes a superb location for pre-dinner cocktails.

We offer our couples the opportunity to browse through our extensive supplier list, allowing them to choose vendors that match their vision and style. From decorations and furniture to lighting and flowers, each aspect of the day will be your own. This venue also allows you to bring your own alcohol and permits the use of both natural confetti and fireworks.
Accommodation
The Georgian Manor House at Tall John’s House can accommodate up to 27 people, providing plenty of space for newlyweds and their wedding party which is entirely optional. With high ceilings and classic Georgian-era decor, nearly all the bedrooms have their own bathroom. Included in the package, is a two night stay in our self-catering Honeysuckle Cottage with its four double bedrooms andbathrooms. The perfect place to use as a base while decorating. Our lovely one-bedroom cottage, The Coachmans is also included for one night for newly married couples on their wedding night.

Beautifully perfect for a whole wedding weekend!!
Having not had a big wedding in our family we may not have been the most prepared however, Archie (the boss trouble shooter on site) managed to field all queries seemingly without breaking a sweat! In the run up to the weekend, Liza was fabulous at responding to emails and clarifying details to ensure all went as smoothly as possible. Ken, chef for the smaller family meals, received many compliments for his lovely manner and managing such a tasty breakfast for so many people!
Our plan A was to be married on the lawn, but it ended up raining in July, so Archie was great at supporting the move to the Granary and facilitated me checking out the set up on the wedding morning. It was cozy and didn’t need any additional decoration being a lovely well-kept building. We then had our drinks reception in the Granary and the outside covered courtyard with the main dinner and dance on the barn. We loved having the different areas to work with and felt it facilitated a nice flow of the day. The barn was a perfect place for a lively barn dance! We have some amazing pictures!
Ed and I would highly recommend Tall John’s for weddings, or any big gathering! Family and friends have come away with plenty of fantastic memories and praise for the venue.

Wedding of our dreams ✨
The whole planning process was a dream- Liza was so helpful and relaxed throughout. The place was so flexible with your plans, and the whole experience was stress free. Even with some last minute changes that were out of our control, Tall John’s staff were understanding and reassuring, and everything went so smoothly.
Archie was great and very attentive throughout, and was there during the day for us and our guests if we needed anything, which was a great help too!
The fact that the place is exclusive for the weekend of your wedding made it such a personal and relaxed place to be. We could make the weekend exactly how we wanted it to be! Ken cooked a lovely meal for us and the immediate wedding party the night before the wedding, and nothing was too much trouble! It was a lovely way to spend the night before the big day once we had finished decorating, and we really enjoyed ourselves.
We got married in the main barn, and had our drinks reception in the Granary, with the reception then back in the main barn, as it was during the Winter. The main barn was so beautiful, and looked even better than I ever could have dreamed of! Everyone loved the Granary too- and were loving the secret room with the pool table! We had some lovely photos and videos in the grounds too.
We used the Dr’s Orders bar for the evening, which Archie and Sophie provide. They were so lovely to plan with, and they were fab on the night- everyone commented on how friendly they were, with a great selection of (very reasonably priced!) drinks.
The cottages were spotless and such a lovely place to stay. Our guests stayed in the cottages, stables and Manor House-many said to us afterwards the the beds were the comfiest they had ever slept in, and were full of praise for the breakfast the next morning, which was a lovely way to end the weekend. Our only regret is that we didn’t book another night to relax for the day after the wedding.
I honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough. My husband and I, as well as all of our guests had the most fantastic weekend, and are so grateful to Liza and all the team for truly making this the best weekend ever!
