About
Tattershall Castle, England’s finest brick-built medieval castle, is set in delightful grounds, and is perfect for capturing truly beautiful photographs and memories of your special day. Built in 1434 by Ralph Cromwell, Lord Treasurer of England, Tattershall Castle is a site that dramatically and proudly rises above the flat fenlands of Lincolnshire, and it is a magnificent statement of 15th century ambition, wealth, architecture and style.
What We Offer
At Tattershall Castle, ceremonies are available for booking any day of the week, any month of the year, normally between 11am and 2pm. You will be booking exclusive use of our impressive Parlour Room for your special ceremony, followed by an optional drinks reception in the castle’s stunning grounds. You will also have access to the whole castle to freely explore, and to take some fantastically original photos. Whatever your wedding day plans are, we will certainly help you organise your perfect day.
Ceremonies in the Parlour
Weddings take place on the ground floor of Tattershall Castle, in the Parlour; this is the space from which Ralph Cromwell would have managed his estates over 500 years ago.
On your arrival at Tattershall Castle, you will walk across the 100 year old bridges, pausing for thought and photographs with the striking backdrop of an idyllic medieval castle behind you, before saying ‘I do’ in a distinctive and intimate ceremony, surrounded by your friends and family, and hundreds of years of history.
The Parlour, with its magnificent high ceiling, intricately carved stone fireplace, and majestic stained glass windows, makes for an undeniably unique and intimate ceremony. The Parlour has ramped access, and is licensed to hold civil ceremonies for up to 80 seated guests. It can also accommodate a small gathering of musicians, such as a string trio or a quartet, or other additional guests at the back.
Due to the historic nature of the building, there are certain restrictions on what you can have at your ceremony, and on what decorations can be placed inside the Parlour. Please see the booking form for full terms and conditions, and please feel free to make any enquiries.
Tattershall Castle can provide an assortment of set decorations for your ceremony, should you wish, and photos of these decorations are available upon request.
Photography In The Castle And Grounds
Following your ceremony, your guests can celebrate with you as you take your first steps in married bliss back down the aisle and out to the front of the Great Tower. If you choose to have a drinks reception with us, this is certainly the time for your guests to raise a toast to you both, and for your photographer to further capture the wondrousness of your special day.
You will have up to an hour and a half to take stunning photographs within the castle and its grounds; in this time, why not ascend our wonderfully crafted spiral staircase all the way up to the battlements, where you will be rewarded with unmatchable views of the ever picturesque Lincolnshire countryside (if your attire allows you to climb the 149 steps up to the top that is).
Drinks Reception
Directly after your ceremony, why not enjoy a special celebratory drinks reception with your friends and family within the grounds of the castle. This can take place on the grassed Inner Ward in front of the Great Tower, in the secluded ruins of the Outer Ward, or, if the weather is less favourable, in the Great Tower’s impressive vaulted ceiling basement.
While your guests are enjoying their drinks, you also have the perfect moment to sneak away, and to take some more intimate and romantic photographs within the Great Tower and on the castle grounds
