Tucked away in quiet Marble Quay, in the heart of St Katharine’s Docks in East London, you will find the Dickens Inn function suite, a stunning wedding venue for your special day. The Dickens Suite is a hidden gem, sheltered from the City’s hustle and bustle.

This delightfully stylish and spacious function suite has been beautifully finished in a light, contemporary style. It has vast ceilings, wooden beams, and sweeping windows that let natural daylight fill the room. The perfect spot for a wedding party, this charming venue is part of a historic pub, which is believed to date back to the early 1700s as a tea factory or a local brewery.

Years later, it was converted into a local tavern with sawdust-strewn floors. Diners also enjoyed candlelit meals on the balconies until it was phased out due to modern fire safety regulations!

The Dickens Inn and its 120 tonnes were moved 70 meters east to accommodate a new housing development.

In the restoration, the original timbers, tailboards, and ironwork were used, and the building was reconstructed into a three-story balconied inn of the 18th century. It offers a unique blend of history and modern elegance, perfect for couples seeking a distinctive and atmospheric setting for their wedding celebration.

The Dickens Inn was opened in May 1976 by the grandson of Charles Dickens, Cedric Charles Dickens.

Charles Dickens particularly enjoyed Thameside and East London, and his work is stocked with characters and scenes memorably linked to the area.

Weddings are hosted on the first floor, divided into two beautifully designed rooms. The main Function Suite is a spacious, versatile area with 150 seated or 175 standing capacity. This is where ceremonies, meals, and dancing occur, all within a stunning setting that combines contemporary style and historic character.

At the second room, the Pickwick Room, we usually host drinks reception & room turnarounds, offering a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. This room also boasts a private balcony with stunning views of the marina & famous Tower Bridge, making it the perfect place for guests to mingle and enjoy the surroundings.

The venue offers flexibility with its setups, allowing each couple to create a wedding day tailored to their style and vision. Whether planning an intimate affair or a grand celebration, this venue provides a versatile and memorable space for every part of your special day.
