The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a historic wedding venue in the heart of Chelsea, South West London. The hospital was founded in 1682 by King Charles II and transformed into the grand setting it is today by Sir Christopher Wren. Built as a haven for veterans, it has provided care for former soldiers and hosted events for over three centuries. Boasting views of the Thames and situated near King's Road, this Grade I and II Heritage-listed building offers city couples a stunning escape while keeping close to the hustle and bustle of London.

Facilities and Capacity

The splendour of The Royal Hospital Chelsea is evident from the moment you step foot on the ground. The Great Hall is an exquisite dining room used daily by the Chelsea Pensioners, which has maintained its period features and charm over its 300-year lifetime. The black and white chequerboard tiles offset magnificent oak panelling, with awe-inspiring portraits hanging between the long windows. Not to mention, the splendid candle chandeliers add more light to the space. Host your fairytale reception with up to 120 guests with room for a dance floor or 180 without one. A civil ceremony within the ornate walls of The State Apartments exudes royalty. With lavish interiors and deep wooden flooring, you and your 60-seated guests can enjoy luxury while you say "I do" or invite 100 to 160 of your nearest and dearest for the champagne reception. If you are planning a more intimate affair, Wren House is sophisticated and welcoming, easily seating 20 people downstairs and 12 more upstairs. An outdoor soirée in Ranelagh Gardens is idyllic during the warmer months. Its flawlessly manicured gardens and vast lawns create the perfect backdrop for a celebration with 150 of your friends and family. Figure Court is a 17th-century courtyard surrounded by the elegant rooms and structures of The Royal Hospital Chelsea. You are welcome to use this space as an enchanting outdoor cocktail reception space when hired alongside dining and dancing in the main buildings.

Fabulous historic venue

It was an honour to be able to have our wedding in the wonderful place that is the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Our guests were blown away at how grand it all felt! We had a drinks reception in the beautiful Figure Court and then our wedding breakfast and evening reception in the Great Hall. The grounds and buildings serve as an amazing backdrop for photos and it all felt quite private considering its in the heart of London and home to the Chelsea Pensioners. The team there were extremely professional and helpful and made the day very special for us.
