Our Wookey hole cave ceremony was breathtakingly stunning and provided the perfect magical setting for our alternative wedding, complete with a cave lake, tea lights, sparkler arch and our gorgeous bear, Archie.

The penny arcade drinks reception was so much fun and all of our guests commented on it being the most enjoyable, happy and relaxed wedding they have ever been to.

The staff were all so warm and friendly throughout and went out of their way to make sure every detail was catered to with professionalism that remained relaxed and at ease rather than pretentious and stuffy.

A crucial part of what makes a Wookey hole wedding such a stress-free and happy experience is having their wedding coordinator, Lucy, on board. I cannot praise the service Lucy offers highly enough, as she literally performs the role of a wedding planner without the additional fee. Every detail is taken care of by her and her fabulous team, which leaves you able to totally immerse yourself in the moment on your special day.

We had the most perfect day from beginning to end at Wookey Hole. Right from the first contact with Stephanie, who is the Wedding planner, we were treated so well and with respect, even though we were only a small group. We had the opposite experience with some other venues. We had a Pagan Handfasting, so we had some different requirements from a normal wedding. This was no problem for the Wookey Hole team. They followed our instructions and made everything just perfect! Stephanie and the whole team are very professional and pay attention to detail. They were all so friendly and kind. Having had to postpone our original plans for two years during the pandemic, we were looking for something truly different to reinvigorate our interest and passion in our wedding plans. In choosing Wookey Hole, we absolutely, utterly, completely found it!

Lucy couldn’t have been more helpful in the lead up to the day itself. Always available for a chat, we were made to feel like nothing was too silly or trivial to ask. We felt supported when we needed it and reassurance was always given if required! When it comes to event planning, Lucy is second to none.

The day itself went without the slightest of problems. If there were any hiccups behind the scenes, they must have been dealt with quickly and discreetly. Everything felt panic-free and we both felt not just looked after, but cherished. What an amazing team of people came together to make this happen.

That was just some of the comments from our guests as the night drew to a close, and was typical of comments from all our guest both on the night and through social media postings in the days following.

It started many months ago (22 for us) with an idea to get married at a unique venue, and after a visit to Wookey Hole, we looked no further. Not only does it give an opportunity to get married at a truly unique venue that had been in use by humans for at least 45,000 years, have a choice of function rooms for the breakfast and evening entertainment, have a fully stocked bar both the venue and at the hotel for use before/after the wedding, and have a large hotel and lodges all onsite that is big enough to accommodate all your guests, but it also has a working Victorian penny arcade, mirror maze, soft play area and crazy golf course all available for the wedding. Our guest were in fact having so much fun using these amenities, that it was almost difficult to get them to actually go to dinner (usually guests are desperate to get to the meal at a wedding!). They can even live stream the wedding ceremony, so we had a friend as far as Réunion watch it live.

We were also able to give our guests a choice of food, and considering they were catering for close to 100 people with a myriad of allergies thrown in for good measure, the quality of the food was exceptional, and again, there were lots of compliments from our guests. All the staff, from checking in at the hotel onwards throughout the day, were friendly, polite and professional and couldn’t do more to help you.

That’s only half the story though. Lucy, the Weddings and Events Manager at Wookey Hole, was simply invaluable. People often said to us that organising a wedding is one of the most stressful things they have done, however, for us it was, dare I say, easy! If we thought of something, Lucy already had a system in place, if we wanted to change something, Lucy was more than obliged, if we had suppliers with specific demands (i.e. the band), Lucy was on top of it. From the logistics, preparation, planning and costs, we were always in communication, kept up to date, and knew exactly where we were. Lucy came up with beautiful artwork for our table plan and programmes that incorporated our table themes, and the table centrepieces were absolutely beautiful. We actually had very little to do on the day before the wedding, other than lay out a couple of supplementary decoration on the tables!

When you tell people you’re getting married in a cave, they can’t help but picture a dark, damp, claustrophobic space, but that simply wasn’t the case. The caves are naturally stunning anyway, but our wedding chamber (and you can chose from 3 different chambers to have the ceremony in) was beautifully illuminated with hundreds of tea lights and soft subtle coloured lighting, and we were even given the option of an acoustic guitarist, again, organised by the venue, who provided a beautiful ambiance – I think it’s safe to say that it’s a wedding everybody will remember for a long time to come! We actually feel sorry for the next person in our friendship group to get married, as with our wedding, the bar has been set almost impossibly high!

We had our wedding at Wookey Hole Caves. It was the most amazing magical day we could have wished for. We had 100 guests for the ceremony and wedding breakfast which we had a hog roast. Beautiful food. Then for the reception when the soft play and penny arcades were opened we had an additional 63 guests. Was amazing have family and friends to share it with.
Yes we had a few hiccups but the staff were quick and professional
In ironing them out and solving them. Lucy is amazing and will help in anyway she can and the staff that she had on for our wedding were all great and enjoyed themselves knowing we were enjoying ourselves also.

I would totally recommend Wookey for any wedding or celebration the staff are all friendly and will go above and beyond to help in anyway they can. The lights and tea lights in the cave made it feel magical and romantic and it is something completely different. My guests are still talking about it now to their friends and family. The reception room set up was lovely and so much is included in the package. You can always add things on that they hire out or bring your own. They are so accommodating and reassuring I couldn’t have asked for a better venue for our wedding. We also had the soft play and penny arcades. I didn’t get pictures of them but awaiting my professional ones.

I wish I could re live the day and do it all again. It was a long time comings made longer with covid but eventually we managed it and we loved every minute of it.

From start to finish Lucy, wedding coordinator, was brilliant. All communication was clear, efficient and personal. Lucy was extremely professional yet made you feel like you were the only wedding she was helping to organise. The cave was just stunning and decorated exactly as asked.
The guides to take you through were lovely.
Our canapés, pre dinner drinks and entertainment were wonderful and went down very well with the guests.
We had the hog roast and it was delicious.
Our bar staff were just so friendly and lovely to chat with.
The whole wedding experience itself was perfect. We wouldn't change a thing.
The only "negative" is the actual hotel itself. It just lacks any atmosphere. So as long as you realise all you will do is sleep and get ready there you'll be fine.
If anybody asked me would I recommend wookey as a wedding venue I would 100% say yes. Every single member of staff make your day(and stay) so so special

Lucy and her team made sure every aspect of our day was perfect. We were looked after the whole day and made to feel so special. The whole set up in the cave was beautiful and even better than I could have imagined. There was also a number of smaller touches that made the day even more perfect. I can't fault Lucy, she made everything faultless. If your looking for a slightly different but amazing venue then I recommend Wookey Hole!

Thank you to everyone at Wookey Hole for making my daughter and son-in-law's wedding absolutely amazing. The ceremony itself was magical and atmospheric with everyone being guided to the cave by friendly staff members. The lighting was beautiful and enhanced the cave setting. The guests were treated to a magnificent and informative tour of the caves whilst the bride and groom were being photographed. After this the steps outside the exit to cave made a woderful setting for group photographs. The drinks reception in the Penny Arcade was great fun and a very relaxed way to socialise with friends and family of the happy couple. meanwhile the children enjoyed the soft play. Moving onto the reception, the restaurant was decorated to perfection and the food was superb. As the bride required a gluten free diet it was decided that the entire menu would be gluten free to avoid cross contmination. The caterers at the venue rose to this challenge unfailingly. The cheese wedding cake consisted of four tiers of delicious cheese served with grapes and crackers (again gluten free). This was very popular, as was the sweeet cart.
Some of us took advantage of the offer to relax in the hotel bar after the evening reception and before a very comfortable night in Wookey Hole Hotel. The hotel also deserves credit. We, and several other guests, stayed here for two nights enjoying an excellent breakfast on both mornings. we would reccomend this to anyone wanting an overnight stay near Wells.
The next morning we were able to collect the props that we had provided for the reception all of which had been boxed up nicely for us. This meant that we wereable to have a calm morning and, indeed, the whole wedding had been calm and well organised meaning that we could all experience maximum enjoyment of such a special occasion.
My final comment must go to the staff, all of whom were polite, friendly and knowledgeable where inside knowledge was required. I'd like to give a special thank you to them all, hotel staff, cave guides, catering and waiting staff, Penny Arcade staff, bar staff and cleaners.

Honestly would 100% recommend if you are wanting a unique and magical wedding. It was so well organised and helped make our special day as stress free as possible. Absolutely perfect in every sense of the word.

Lucy was outstanding , understanding and supportive to us both during planning on special day due to moving of our wedding 3 times due to pandemic . Lucy directed and guided us through the whole process and removed all our concerns and stress and made our day truely magical and seamless .the venue absolutely blew us and our guests away . The venue staff couldnt do enough to make our day amazing and more than helpful to us and our guests when needed . Just wish we could do it again .

Wow! Just wow! Every part of our wedding was perfect, from the way the candles in the cave were laid out to how fun the witch was while entertaining our guests. Our every wish was answered and no trouble was too much for Lucy and her team to work through. Our day was magical!

Everything went really smoothly thanks to Lucy's organisation. The venue looked beautiful and we can't imagine having had our wedding anywhere better. All our guests had a great time, and many told us afterwards how great the staff were at the venue and also the hotel.

We could not have asked for a better experience - right from the initial enquiry and engagement with Lucy, it was clear that we were with the right venue and people. Prices were extremely competitive (especially given the unique nature of the venue!), flexibility with requirements was never an issue. Lucy maintained excellent contact in the lead-up to the event itself, always happy to help; this continued through and into the big day itself, where the staff went out of their way to give us prompt access to the Caves for our set-up needs.
The reception in the Victorian penny arcade was superb, and the dinner was sublime - even though we went with the basic package, Wookey managed to make it feel like the premium option. The reception hall was brilliantly decorated, waiting staff were always on hand at the bar, and the food was impeccable.
